Pros

The style - it's a real headturner

Cons

I don't get to drive it as often as I would like and the cupholders are bizarre

Great Car — It's the best all around car I ever owned I had an SL500 before this and you can really feel the extra horsepower. The top is fast and seals tightly making the car as rigid and snug as a coupe. Inside it's very roomy and comfortable The only way I know there is no rear seat is to turn around and look. If they could only find a way to make the cupholders useful...

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Sharp looking body style. All around fun to drive. The ride and handling are hard to beat. Top raises and lowers very quickly.

Cons

Gas mileage not so great - but you don't buy these cars in the first place if that is a concern. Buy one used - WAY to expensive when they are new.

50 Years Of A Great Tradition — If you want a fun and spirited car to drive around town - or on the highway, consider most any model of Mercedes SL. There may be some years they were not so great, but generally and model of SL will be fun to own and drive. The handling , performance, quality of construction, etc has made this car a long time winner for Mercedes. There are a few downsides though. If you buy one new - you will get absolutely clobbered on depreciation the first several years. My advice is to consider one that is 5 to 7 years in age. Many of these cars only get about 8k or less of miles per year so a 6 yr old car will likely have less than 50k miles. In Mercedes terms - that is still a young car and you will be buying it at less than 40% of MSRP. The other problem will be maintenance. They may not break often - but when they do - it will most likely be very expensive. Start now and build a good report with a trusted independent garage.

Pros

This car has the looks, performance, luxury and safety that is hard to find in many cars. It will feed the sports car type and luxury type equally. It turns on a dime, can leave most sports cars in the dust with little or no effort, exceptional braking and feels as sturdy as a tank.

Cons

Chrome kick plates were a bad choice by Mercedes for the interior step because getting in and out will inevitably mark them up. Molded rubber or plastic material to match the interior would have been better choice.

In Awe! — I cannot say enough about overall package the SL550 offers. This is my wife's car but even at 6'7" I can fit comfortably behind the wheel and enjoy every minute of it. It has the power and performance that a long time BMW junkie like me has grown to admire and has a smooth and luxurious ride that rivals my 750Li. Sure you are going to spend more on tires and general upkeep than if you are coming into this from a Honda but for those used to this class of vehicle, there is not a better built convertible on the market. It's timeless style has always turned heads and will continue to do so and long term ownership will prove it's strong residual value above others in the same class.

Seat adjustments if you're over 6' 2". Fuel economy (but then, it is a performance vehicle).

Awesome Driving Machine — This car is a head turner and is a speed demon. Performance is aggressive, throaty and well advertised. Limited at 155 and gets there in a heartbeat. Interior is kinda tight for heavy or passengers over 6' 2" tall. Love this driving machine.

Fabulous Week In Germany, Can't Wait To Get It Home! — Just got back from my European delivery of my new SL55. What a car! We had a great time on the autobahn. The car was simply amazing. Smooth and silky right up to the computer- limited top-speed of 155 mph. This car has it all--luxury, acceleration, handling, looks, and a retractable hard-top. I just can't say enough good things about the chassis changes for 2007. Huge improvement over my 2003 SL500.

Cons

None that I can think of.

Too Much Car !!!!! — Words alone can not describe how much fun this car is to drive. It far exceeds any expectations I had of it. With the top up it is like a different car, not t o mention the ABC Sport suspension setting. Whatever the price, it is well worth it, but a 2 or 3 year old car is under priced as far as I am concerned. I sold these cars for over 10 years and I had no clue how much car it was.

My Mb — the performance is stunnishing, so is acceleration, excellent brakes, very solid and funny to drive. Its fuel consume is a little high, it costed me about $80 000 but it worths every cent when you can push it to the limit!

Pros

Safest sports car out there with great luxury and top performance.

Cons

Not the best for the money you are spending.

Very Fun As A Convertable! — Acceleration is quite good, you can really feel the urgency of the engine as you press on the gas petal. Braking is as good as any ferrari out there. However the handling is awful. Tons of understeer from the car. We stuck on a Brabus kit onto the car to make it have a much meaner look and makes the exterior much nicer. The interior is great, we fitted on Carbon Fiber linings and it's sexy. Gas mileage is.... a sports car's gas mileage, very low, maintenance on the breaks is quite expensive. Overall a extremely fun car to drive.
