The behemoth of the commercial van segment is the 2007 GMC Savana Cargo 3500 Van, a one-ton cargo carrier that can tow 10,000 pounds with an optional trailer hitch. With a regular 135-inch wheelbase, it can hold 267 cubic feet, and with the extended 155-inch version, it ups the ante to 317 cubic feet. All this is powered by a 4.8-liter, 285-hp V8, but you can boost performance with either a 6.0-liter 300-hp V8 or a Duramax 6.6-liter, 250-hp V8 with 460 lb-ft of torque. All come with a 4-speed auto tran, 16-inch wheels with all-season tires, an independent front/live axle rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, daytime running lights, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, and dual front airbags. A locking rear differential is available in the rear-wheel drive van.
Conveniences are kept to a minimum in the 2-passenger 2007 Savana Cargo 3500 Van. No radio, but you do get air conditioning, intermittent wipers, power steering, and a hinged side door and swing-out rear barn doors. A cargo light is standard. The option packages add a 6-way driver's seat, power features, cruise control, a CD player, heated mirrors, mirrors with turn signals, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, trailer hitch, and remote entry. Sliding doors or 60/40-opening doors for both sides of the van are also available. As a cargo hauler, the 2007 Savana Cargo 3500 Van is powerful and capable, with plenty of room, and its exterior styling has been updated to compete against its outdated rivals. The interior could use a bit of an upgrade, however.
