2006 Saturn Relay Overview
The brass at Saturn listened to their consumers and made some positive changes for the 2006 Saturn Relay. The minivan disguised as an SUV added more features, including second row side impact airbags, standard power sliding passenger side door, and an optional 3.9 L, 240 hp V6 engine for the Relay 3. Otherwise, the Relay features the same 3 trims: Relay 2, Relay 3, and Relay 3 AWD. As with the '05 Relay, the '06 model has scrapped the dent resistant plastic body panels in favor of steel.
Saturn's signature minivan seats 7 and generally gets you 18 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway. Cargo space starts at 27 cubic feet, increases to 74 with the third row removed, and maxes out at 136 with second and third rows removed. The Relay 3 AWD still comes with Versatrak technology, which allocates power between the rear wheels when the front wheels slip. The interior roof console controls heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and entertainment options. All trims have optional cd changer and standard dvd player.
Overall, families enjoy the roomy interior and convenience the 2006 Relay provides. However, consumers would like to see better gas mileage for a minivan. The general consensus indicates that Saturn has found a faithful consumer base with budget conscious families. Continued innovation will determine whether or not the Relay can maintain its hold on the minivan market.
