2006 Chevrolet Corvette Base Convertible Trim Overview

The 2006 Corvette lineup is divided into two trim levels, but the differences between the two are largely related to performance. The base model does not include sporting elements like the lightweight aluminum frame, wider tires and the ultra-firm suspension system, all found on the upper level Z06. The base model is eligible for Chevy's Z51 handling package, which upgrades the suspension, brakes and transmission.

The base convertible houses a 6.0 liter V8, producing 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is the included transmission, but the base coupe and convertible may both be equipped with a new six-speed automatic for no additional charge. Traction and stability control (Corvette's Active Handling System) are also standard.

While both Corvette body styles offer some degree of open-air cruising, the convertible features an automatically retractable soft top in the place of the coupe's roof panels, which must be removed manually.
