It Is The Most "bang For The Buck"of Any Car In That Price Range. — My 2005 Dodge SRT-4 is my daily driver. I can drive reasonably, and get 37 mpg. I can drive in a manner that is the most fun you can have with your clothes on and get 24 mpg. Anyone that criticizes these cars, has never truly driven one. By driving, I don't mean rush hour traffic. My SRT-4 never ceases to bring enjoyment. It's stock, except for an oil catch can and a 3 inch true ram air system. You would have to spend a lot more on a car than I spent on mine to out-perform it.

Pros

Bang for your Buck! a little car with a lot of muscle

Cons

high performance maintence is a must

Beasty — 18 lbs of boost w/ 285 hp and 300 lbs of torque.....clearly a BEAST on wheels. It was black with black rims with chrome inerts....came in 5th out of 70 SRT-4's in overall performance and appearance. The gas mileage was incredible but maintenance can be a pain in the ass if your not on top of it. but overall i love esp when the big dogs thought they had a fast car and then loose to me and be extra mad cause they realized it was a neon!

Sport Car Killer In A Nice Sleeper Package — The coolest economy rocket out there. Puts down 400 hp and smokes cars 5x as expensive. Great for AutoCross, RallyCross, Track days and so on. It's not the prettiest car, but you can see it means business. And it's got viper seats from the factory. Love it! After market support is awesome too. AGP makes every part you need to make it stupid fast.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

I Would Buy Another One If This One Was Somehow Wrecked. — Awesome car, especially considering the price. Lots of fun to drive. Bought it new, was smoking Mustang GT's with 4 less cylinders right off the bat. Braking is excellent in stock form. Handling was not the best, but for a little money it is acceptable. I have done emergency lane changes without any issues. The rear end likes to kick out every now and then, as it is 1"-1.5" higher than the front. Some people don't like the loud muffler-less exhaust, but I knew of this and wanted this when I bought her. I some have rattles, some caused by myself, some unknown. Only have had to do regular maintainance. There is a squeak in the suspension ever since I loaded about 800 lbs of cargo in the back seat and trunk, so that is my fault as well. Mileage is great, I average 22-23mpg every tank. Best record was all freeway with the A/C blasting the whole trip, traveling 75ish the whole way with a couple bursts of RPM's to clean the carbons out ;) achieved 32 mpg 89k miles now, always been reliable. Mildly modded, ran a 13.8 a couple years ago

Pros

Best bang for the buck - period.  Good reliability (if it's not hacked up and/or abused).

Cons

Interior not as nice (or quiet) as Japanese competitors.  Ride can be a bit rough on bad roads.

Highly Recommended For Driving Enthusiasts Willing To Sacrifice Some Comfort For Performance — If you're looking for an inexpensive, practical 4-dr car that will punch $5-10K above its price range, and are willing to compromise a bit of comfort (compared to a Civic, RSX, etc), the SRT-4 should definitely be on your list. I bought my SRT-4 new in July 2005, and have since put over 42K miles on it. I've only had two problems with it: (1) Somewhere around 20K miles, an "ambient temperature sensor" went bad. It didn't affect driveability at all, but the Check Engine light came on so I took it in to the dealer, and they fixed it at no cost under my extended warranty. (2) At approx. 40K miles, one of the ignition wires burned out. The dealer replaced all four wires, at a cost $110 (inc. labor). Overall, the car has been great to own. It's a blast to drive. It's fast, handles well, brakes well, and gets decent mileage if you don't drive like a psychopath. I've averaged 21 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. The seats do get a bit uncomfortable on long rides (3+ hrs) and some of the interior materials are cheap, but what do you expect for $22K car that will hit 60 MPH in under six seconds and top out at over 145 MPH? The SRT guys had to save $$$ somewhere. The back seat is usable for normal-sized adults for short to medium-length trips, and the trunk can hold a decent amount of stuff. Overall, the interior is very functional and has held up very well. A side benefit to owning an SRT-4 is that you won't see one on every corner. Dodge only built somewhere between 30-40K of them over three years. You'll get the inevitable "it's a Neon" comments, but who cares? As a new car, it was the fastest and most practical car I could buy in 2005, and I think it holds up well as a used car. One final tip: don't buy a heavily modified SRT-4 unless you are VERY sure of the quality and reliability of the mods. Try to find a stock SRT and modify it yourself. Mine is still under warranty, so the only mods I've done are springs (1.25" lowering), 18" wheels/tires, a 3" cat-back exhaust, and a K&N air filter.

Cons

Cheap interior but who cares when you're going fast

Do It — Best car for the money, quality is so so, gas mileage is great I regularly get 28+ in the city, performance is awesome in a strait line and in corners, and its not an expensive car to own at all. Over this is a great great car, you won't regret it.

It's Amazing — Turbo kicks in fast and the acceleration is amazing. 7-8 inch thick, 1-3 foot intercooler. Mopar blow off valve. This car is amazing to drive. $13,000 dollars but is so worth it. i can't wait to drive this for the next 15 years.

Srt-4 — Bought the car new, it's still a ton of fun to drive. Great performance out of the 2.4L Turbo, the ACR package makes for a great handling car too. Tough to beat for the money. Fuel mileage could be better for a four cylinder, in 5th gear at highway speeds its 2500+ RPM.

My Srt-4 — Performance wise it will shock people with cars 30k or more. The build quality i wish was better but hey, thats what money is for ! the appearance right now shows it battle scars but i keep waxing it :-) the cost of ownership is little to none except for tires that go every year, the fun factor is OUTSTANDING i never been in a car that done 155MPH and keep asking for more, AND ITS A NEON anyone i know thats been in my car has had a blast beating vets and rice burners up and down the strip.
