CarGurus Overview

As the base model of a no-frills economy compact car, the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Base sedan didn't offer a lot of extras. However, it did come standard with a surprisingly high-end stereo, and both OnStar and XM satellite radio were available options.

Despite its less-than-optimal performance in crash tests, the '05 Cavalier is equipped with safety features including air bags and anti-lock brakes. The 140-horsepower engine (a 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder plant with dual overhead cams) provides plenty of power for the car's light weight.

As an alternative to other compacts in its class (Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Ford Focus, or Dodge Neon), the 2005 Chevy Cavalier falls short in creature comforts and up-to-date style. Its safety record is not outstanding. However, the Cavalier Base model does appeal to the pocketbook: Its low sticker price translates to a good buy on the resale market.

This overview covers the Base trim only.
