This S60's 2.4 liter inline five is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, routing power to the front wheels. This naturally aspirated version of Volvo's engine delivers 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.
For 2003, the Base adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an improved CD audio system to the standard features list, which already includes heated power mirrors, full power accessories, air conditioning, an interior air filter, cruise control, cloth upholstery and remote keyless entry.

The 2.4T is the second tier in the 2003 S60 lineup. A turbocharger has been added to the 2.4 liter five cylinder engine, boosting horsepower from 168 to 197. The 2.4T is only available with a five-speed automatic transmission. This trim adds a power driver's seat with a memory function, dual-zone automatic climate control and fog lamps. The Base's 15-inch tires are replaced with 16s here.

The T5's 2.3 liter inline five is turbocharged for 247 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. The five-speed manual transmission comes standard and the five-speed automatic is optional. The T5 includes all of the standard features found on the 2.4T and 2.5T AWD, plus a unique cloth and vinyl upholstery, an eight-way power seat for the passenger, a trip computer, a universal garage-door opener and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. An anti-skid system has also been added to the list of safety features.
