Pros

Amazing on Gas.

Cons

Lacks some Speed.

2003 Mazda Protege Lx — Performance: A bit slow for my liking but handling is great. Quality: Stereo knobs are terrible and some rust under the door, but other than that its running really great at 130000 km. Appearance: Great, except for the back lights.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros

Super Sexy and is easy to mod.

Cons

E.G.R. Valves, Wheel Bearings and End links are trouble.

45

Drive A Winner! — Over all a deadly old car. Wicked on gas, easiest standard I've ever drove. The few trouble spots that the proteges are famous for are fairly cheap to fix. It is easier to mod the 2.0L then the 1.6L because parts are more common but it is all fun and easy to work with.

Sports Car With Inline 4 And Good Handling — good sports car with enough handling. Could be faster, clutch is a little slippery. Interior is good, exterior is somewhat sleek. Spoiler is nice.

Pros

Brakes, Suspension, engine is "playful".  Interior quality and lack of rattles and such.

Cons

lack of total power (could use 40 more hp), no Ipod connector available, FWD

45

Enough Fun To Keep Me From Going Nuts, But Practical. — Over the past few years this car has been my mainstay. I got it after selling my last 240 and I needed a 4 door car. I tried the Civic, Corolla, and Sentra. The mazda however didnt feel as rubbery inside, and the brakes, suspension, and snappiness of the gearchange were far superior to the traditional budget vehicles. it dosent have enough power for the grip the car has (I run Hankook 212's) but its enough fun for the moment..

Pros

Very Sporty, drives and handles very well. Quick turns and goes around curves very well. Take-off power is great, no lag in quickly coming to a good rolling speed. ES trim with Auto Tans comes with the "slap-stick" - optional Manual Trans. if you are in a playful mood :)

Cons

Small 2.0 4 cyl block not so much of a problem, but would be better as a 2.5. Gear ratios are horrible on the Automatic Transmission

185

Go-cart Ride For A Daily Commute Or Quick Trip Around Town. — Overall, a great Compact Auto. Ranks well in its class. Automatic Transmission - 1 and 2 are great, but the rations on 3 and 4 are not good for higher speed driving. On the interstate at gear 4 at about 75 MPH you will be at about 3,000 to 3,500 RPM (NOT good for gas consumption) Would be better served if the stock 4th gear in the Auto Trans would have lower RPMs at 80 to 90 MPH. At these speeds, you can watch your gas hand move (Yes, I do speed sometimes when travelling, but I am a cautious and courteous driver)

Pros

Stickshift

Cons

we need to buy new tires all the time

35

Mazda And The Inexperienced Driver — It is a stickshift, so it gets a little complicated for an inexperienced driver, but on the other hand it handles like a sports car and has some power to it. It is actualy my parents car so im learning to drive it.

Pros

Suprizingly sporty

Cons

Could use a bit more power to go with the sporty drive.

Great Commuter — Just plain fun. I have over 240k mile in this car and i just upgraded the stereo and headlights. The only reason I will not make to 300 thousand is that my kids are quite tall and I may need to get a bigger car. I love this car. We bought it

Pros

Interior looks pretty nice.

Cons

Intake manifold sucks... battery always dies...

35

It Ok For A Cheap Car... — Kinda weak performance, and not built very well. Gets you from point A to point B.
