Mercedes C220 Cdi — The 220 cdi is economical and torquey. Excellent motorway cruiser. Quick, comfortable and i love the way it looks. Solid interior and lots to play with. Handling is fairly good and fuel economy is rarely below 50 mpg. Has a quite alot of space and a big boot. Ive been happy with it!

Many Repairs And Maintainance - Use Mercedes Repair Experts Only... — I've had my car for 3.5 years. Needs break pads and rotors replaced every 25,000 miles depending on what kind of driving and driver you are. It costs 350.00 for each end so hopefully you can do them at separate times. Must get the right kind of pads and they do not turn the rotors like a regular car! They throw them out and make you start fresh - this is why the wheels have that black powder around them but they work great. Sears checked my starter, alternator and battery and in the process fried my $1,100.00 (parts and labor) Tel Aid and refuse to fix it and now I have a big SRS message on the dash that cannot be removed with the normal mercedes scanner. After about five years you will need the $1,000.00 tune up. I find the car to be slow on the low end (when starting to drive/ accelorate. I recommend getting one with the split fold down rear seat. The Check Engine light comes on for just about any little thing that comes up. Air Bags are dangerous because of the dangerous powder inside them and they can rip the skin off of your face (free chemical peel!) so my mercedes mechanic says you should put the seat back as far as possible and tilt it back (so you look like some of the young low riders) to keep it safe. I also had a bad original owner, so I had to rebuild most of the front end which was 1,300.00. My gas milage is not evil nor very good for a smaller sedan.

Owner for 3 years, 6 months

Miles Driven per Year:12,000

Pros

This hatchback 4 seater car is very sporty, economical and  a roomy, functional package.  This C class hatchback (coupe) is appears to be built on a sedan wheelbase?  Because the rear seats are true rear seats not just for car seats or toddlers. The will hold a adult equal to many small sedans of today's era.  The rear passenger (& front ones too), the ESP traction, bracking assist, ABS, seat belt hold down designs,  I would place so advanced in its day again equal or better than today's small car offerings.   It is a heavier, safer and running premium getting >25/34mpg ( so gas extra cost makes it = regular cost > 22.5/31.  Timing chain motor (not belt maint issues or $$$ costs).  Very solid, framed door windows.

Cons

Perceptions... that MB maint costs are over the roof.  Not true, parts are no more (often less) expensive than many of today's low price end cars.  I do all my own wrenching having a full garage and lift in the family.  There are some known basic and expensive issues on this platform (dash LCD and HVAC dash steppers/arms).  These cars are easily serviced and any MB specifics you can find many independents who can work them and have MB STAR  diagnosis knock off capabilities.  Panoroofs can be a PITA and forget it when they break...$$$$$.

Underrated Used Car Value In Today's Market. — I love this car, I bought it on a whim, (as the new car I just got) as my 2nd vehicle. I wanted the greater gas mileage, the fun of a sporty car & 6 speed and to save my SUV wear & tear. I maintain my own cars and am a wrench. Working on this (my 1st Mercedes) I found no difficulties as nuts & bolts are the same basics ... for my 17,000 miles and 2 years it has been one of the best cars I ever owned. It always get compliments and has never broke down always returning great mileage while smiling fun cruising.

6 speed. Nice torque. Great handling.

Cons

Small aftermarket support.

Great Car! — Quick pull, alot of torque and good power band. Maximum torque at 1800rpm. Brakes are great, as expected from most Mercedes-Benz'. Stiffened sway bars for improved handling. About to be lowered 1" with eibach springs. Very strong exterior and very durable body. Paint chips on the hood from being parked outside everyday. AMG CLK alloy rims wrapped in Bridgestone RE050 Pole Positions.. Clean simple interior. 22 mpg average. Regular maintenence needed approximately every 3k-5k miles. May not be the looker, but it can keep up with just about any car on the street with a decent driver.

Pros

fast, fuel efficient, great noise, awesome sun roof

Cons

no suspension, awful base stereo, not very attractive back

Fantastic! — Fantastic little car. Like most people who own this car and want better performance, I've changed the supercharger pulley. I love this car. I love the sound it makes, and the speed. The base stereo suck...so I've changed it (i.e. Kennwood single din deck, Pioneer speakers). The traction control is awful, when you want to have fun, it stops you from it, when it rains, it just gives up. Mine has AMG tuned suspension, its great for driving on smooth roads, but anyone who's been in my car can agree that it doesn't have any suspension, just tires! Also have high performance tires, no traction in the wet, end of story. The panorama sun roof (or whatever it's called) is fantastic, as close to a convertible as possible :) I'm not a fan of the back of the car, it doesn't flow very well with the car, it just sort of ends. I don't know why, but my car is badged as a C23 AMG...Planing on putting a high flow exhaust on it soon, but for now, I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

Get A Bmw 330i Instead — Decent car, drives better than my mothers 2012 Chrysler 200 but not as good as the Z3. Can be fairly snappy if you have a lead foot but slowish with passive driving. Handles really well, tight steering and no over/under steer.
