Pros

Very solid feel in bad weather, rides quite nice when weather is good too!

Cons

Early production quality issues in the drive-train and axle areas.  Most problems showed up in the 50-60K mile range.

2002 Ford Explorer - Decent Suv That Has Stood The Test Of Time. — Very solid SUV that has stood the test of time. I mostly use this vehicle for family travel and for hauling trash and yard clippings to the dump and the recycling area. Good Cargo area, solid build, you can really get down and get brown with this vehicle, then wash it down, and head out on the town and you will arrive in style.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Awesome Car — Pretty much amazing. Lots of power, very good acceleration for a 2 ton SUV able to tow a huge trailer without any problem. 114K miles and still going strong Hasnt required any major repairs in the last 25K miles. Overall a great car to drive.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Great Family Hauler That Can Pull And Isnt A Huge Suv Plus Was More Roomy Compared To Some — mine had the optional v8 4.6 awd. it was a great suv. roomy 3rd row seating wich i do miss. not the best on gas. but great for towing . handling was great cmpared to some of the other suvs i have a drivin. it was one of the best suvs i ever drivin in the snow. the styling was good for the year it came out in. never had anything really ever go wrong with it.

I Love My Truck But It Wont Last Forever. — I now have 193,000 miles on my Explorer and have never had a major problem with it. Just normal maintenance for me. It still looks great and still drives great. I actually want to buy another one when this one dies. Same body style too so I'm looking for a 2010 blue flame explorer.

2002 Ford Explorer Xlt — Truck runs great, tranny was replaced before i bought it truck has 152,000 miles on the engine but no signs of giving up, But the truck sounds funny sometimes like an engine electrically sound but it clears up after the truck warms up, until you get on the highway you hear it also.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Good V-8 Power

Cons

Battery needs replacing often

Explorer — The performance of the car is very good. Has good power and the handling is good,m even off-road. My car has a black paint job with gray leather interior and looks really nice. Maintenance is not too bad, but the battery dies easily especially if you leave a light on for an hour or so.

To haul stuff (Scuba gear, friends, landscape stuff)

Cons

If you want a nicer look, smoother ride, and more luxury...

I Would Recommend This As Car As A Workhorse, Go Up A Few Price Points For Luxury. — Has been a good vehicle for this price range. No major repairs, just maintenance. Performance: needs a V8, good braking, good suspension, good gas mileage. It is utilitarian to drive. If you want a better ride and more luxury, go up a couple of price points and go for the lexus SUV.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Comfortable Riding Car As Long As It Maintain — I brought the car with a blown speaker. Had a new speaker and system put in, now my inside light goes off and on (had to disconnect roof lights). door ajared on even though doors are closed. Door locks goes off and on automatically. No heat in the winter (heater core don't leak and no fogging). advise received to replace the heater coil (cost 750.00 to 1,000.00 or trying flushing cost 80.00 to 120.00) with no guarentees on flushing.
