2002 BMW 7 Series 745Li Review
ProsI received all types of attention driving this car. ConsThe repair expenses

Welcome To The Poor House — I was like a movie star, when pulling up at restaurants. If I told you how many women I got as of a result of driving this car you wouldn't believe me. The car was strong and powerful and it would take off like a rocket. I had plenty of room; and if you slide the front seats all the way upward, the backseat was like a hotel. The ugly side of ownership was the repair expenses; they were the most I've ever seen with a car. I've owned many Mercedes, Lexus, Hummers; but what I went through with this car was excessive. The problem wasn't necessarily the cost of the parts, it was the labor and the design that only allows the dealer to fix them. So when I had an issue I would try at all cost not to go to the dealer, but many of the independent BMW repair shops couldn't locate the problem, or didn't want to spend 3 days trying to. When I took it to the dealer they would say that it may be 5 issues causing my problem, and they have to replace all 5 items to determine the real issue. The crazy thing is that after all of that effort of replacing 5 expensive parts, the problem may still go unfixed. After being stranded numerous times, enduring the embarrassment of being dressed in my best suit, with the hood up on the side of the road, I decided to sell it. I was tired of dealing with the consent issues, and the issue of no one knowing how to or wanting to fix them. A funny realization, is that between gas, insurance and repair cost, in the the 20 months I owned this car it cost me $25,0000. It would have been a lot more if I wasn't as resourceful as I am. A few days ago I was marveling at the fact that I have so much money left over at the end of the month now. This car being gone is the reason why. Another interesting side note. I was going to get rid of my 2002 and get a newer year, but after talking to my friends and others I knew who had newer models, we had the same problems. I loved the attention, I love the ride and power; I hated the cost that came along with it. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsSmooth, fast, predictable, fun to drive. ConsIf you cannot afford the maintenance at BMW,well think twice before owning one of these.

Best Combination Of Luxury And Performance — Without a doubt this is the best ride I ever owned. Handles great for a car this big, best technology available at the time it was introduced, and ha the right level of luxury / comfort without feeling over done. Not to mention 21-22mpg ave. with a V8 that blows the doors off most others. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Fun — fast acceleration, high top speed (160mph), great handling . although i havent had that much stuff to repair on this car everytime i do it is expensive as hell. The interior and exterior of this car are wonderful, people stop and stare almost everywhere i go. this car has a 23 gallon gas tank which i can get about 480 miles to a tank city and about 650 hwy. oil changes cost me about $100 dollars to change it myself. all in all this thing is great to go out on the town speed down the highway and hit turns fast as hell, but if it breaks good luck! ProsThe ultimate driving machine, especially on road trips. It is hard to beat the ride that the well refined BMW suspension provides with upgraded tires and lightweight aluminum wheel, responsiveness at the wheel is awesome and very reassuring. On the Interstate you cannot distinguish between 80-mph and 120-mph without glancing at the speedometer, the V-12 is that smooth and the cabin is equally quiet. ConsMaintnance cost. You have two of everything under the hood and when you replace one it is smart to replace the other, regretably doubling the cost of most component replacement or repair.

I Love It. — It is paid for and many of the technical advancements found on later model cars were standard equipment on this car ten years ago. It has lasting appeal and a style that says BMW as it exudes refinement. The V-12 is no slouch, not a drag strip King, but it loves the open road. Primary Use: Family transportation

Not Too Shabby — Controversial style, but I like it. The materials are great, the interior is amazing, and ahead of its time. There's a reason Merc copied this car with the S-Class. So long as no mechanical difficulties arise, it will treat you good. It's not a cheap car to run, mind you.

ProsThis car has the best ride. ConsThe amount of money the dealer ships charge for any repairs. But, don't have many problem out of the car so I guess it is worth the price you pay.

Powerful — This car handles great. If I could I would have a new 750LI now but, it won't be long. This car has so much room and the comfort of the seats. I love how if you don't close the door all the way...it closes by itself. Primary Use: Family transportation |
