Great Vehilce Love Needed — I have grown up on VW's. I have always enjoyed there pep and thrilling driving experience. The fit and finish of this vehicle is bar none the best in it's class. Car has never left me anywhere and while very expensive to fix it doesn't need to be fixed a lot.

Great Car — I love my car but it's green I wish it was blue or black. Very reliable family car, worried it may need a new clutch but hoping not yet, has a few rust spots but has under 100,000 miles which is awesome for a 2000.

Cons

Repairs/parts are expensive, some quality control issues

Great Car At Good Price, Been Very Solid For Me. — Solid car, mostly reliable - for example, still original clutch at 180k. Occasional annoying mechanical issues and recalls. Peppy, but annoyed that the engine was limited to 150hp. Fun car to drive! It's been pretty cheap to own, just a few major repairs. The replacement parts (and service at the Stealership) can be pretty expensive though. I've made several updates and upgrades; a Cold Air Intake, upgraded Diverter Valve, short shift, etc... It's a cool car, but it's about to be replaced, I think...

A Great Fuel Saver — I took it from Bristol Va. area to Nashville Tn. on one tank of fuel and had some left when I got there. So if your looking for something to use Commuting to work every day then any of these Volkswagen Jetta TDI are one way to save money!

Love It. Had My Whole Life In It At One Moment. — This car is nice. If I only had the money to fix it up. put some eighteens on that bih. with some low low profile tires. new paint job. throw a stax for the inside. with 2 squared kickers, sick ass amp and a touch screen -_- but overall its a bad ass lil whip. still trucking along. ima just tune up that engine and it'll be like new (:

Pros

EVERYTHING!

Cons

VW's infamous electrical glitches in their Mk4 cars can become annoying. However, most fixes are cheap and simple. A lot of money can be saved if you can do the basics yourself.

Vw Love — It's an extremely fun car to drive, with predictable limits. Power from the torquey VR6 is more than enough to send you flying into triple digit speeds. Speaking of the VR6, it gets surprisingly good gas mileage if treated right. I often see 10.0-11.0L/100km (21-24mpg) on my daily commute (consisting of city mileage only) to school and work. When cruising on the highway, consumption drops to a commendable 8.0L/100km (29mog). Premium fuel (91 Octane) or more IS REQUIRED! Steering feel & feedback is excellent, along with stellar brakes. Ride is firm (my GLI sport springs can be blamed for that), but it provides the best compromise between performance and comfort. The standard springs were too soft for my liking. Clutch engagement is quite high up on the pedal, but the weight of the clutch is perfect. Fit & finish is stellar both inside and out. The car is 12 years old and there is absolutely no sign of cracking, ripping, or fading on the leather upholstery. The blue and red instrument cluster lighting looks fantastic at night, and all controls are easy to reach. My Jetta also has VW's CLIMATRONIC climate control which is an excellent feature (set it and forget it!). The rain-sensing, automatic wipers also come in handy quite often. Do be sure to turn them off if entering car washes, as the wiper arms can get ripped off. The attention to detail can be seen everywhere in this car... the side view mirror will angle downwards when reverse is engaged to assist with parallel parking, the fuel pump will prime itself when the driver's door is opened before getting in. Things like this make the driving experience that much better... As I stated earlier, the gas mileage is totally dependant of how you drive the car. If treated right, the Jetta will do just fine. Keeping up to date on regular maintenance is crucial if you want your car to last. No out of the ordinary maintenance has been needed. Exterior styling is conservative, but a hint of muscularity can be seen in places like the fender flares. Jetta's tend to have a bit of a "monster truck" look to them in stock from, so I highly advise moving to the VW sports suspension, which will lower the car similarly to how mine is in the picture.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

One of the top MPG of any car on the road, and you don't have to drive in a tiny car.  All the things people love about driving a German car.

Cons

It's a German car.  It is not for anyone who likes to shy away from maintenance.

Oil Burning Jetta — This car is simply the most practical car on the market that will exceed 40 MPG. Wonderful German feel and build. Loads of torque from the turbo charged diesel engine. The engine is responsive and the handling feels solid. Plenty of interior space for a mid sized sedan, with a cavernous trunk.

Cons

Maintenance costs are $$$

Really Fun Car To Drive...not So Fun On The Wallet — Bought JT second hand from the original owner in Chicago. Love driving JT but drawbacks include mass airflow issues, lots of maintenance and engine light is always on even right after I resolve the error codes. :( Two words: Extended Warranty!! :)
