Prosgas mileage, performance, well built Consnone so far

Jetta — i bought this car for the gas mileage and man does it have so many other good qualities. it gets roughly about 32 mpg highway. It's such a fun car to drive as well, great handeling, great braking, and somewhat quick, and there are a lot of upgrades that are available

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Review
ProsVery solid build, good gas mileage, exceptional acceleration ConsA few recalls in the first year, but they were addressed for free, and the car has been very reliable.

2001 Vw Jetta Gls 1.8t — The mark IV Jetta has received less than stellar reviews for reliability, particularly regarding its electrical system. However, I've been nothing but thrilled with my turbo GLS model since the first day I drove it off the lot. It's not too big or too small, the trunk is huge, the gas mileage only improves as I near 90K miles, and the acceleration is great! The car is also very solid and quiet. It's a ton of fun to drive. I typically get tired of cars within two or three years of ownership, but I still love my VW after more than eight years! I don't plan to ever get rid of it!

ProsStyling, VR6 power, handling, ConsReliability, cost of parts and labor

Beautiful Car, Terrible Reliability - Sadly, Buyer Beware!!! — Absolutely amazing car to drive - tons of fun, great looking, high-quality interior, great handling, and very fast with the VR6 engine and 5-speed. Based on driving experince alone, it's a 5-star car. Durability with this car however, was a nightmare. My Jetta was completely incapable of going 1,000 miles without the "check engine" light coming on and requiring a random repair. The cost of parts and labor are ridiculous, and were the determining factors in selling it after only 1 year of ownership. (The VR6 barely fits in engine bay, causing labor for something simple like an altinator replacement to cost far too much). I hate to say it, but this vehicle has probably turned me off from buying another VW for quite some time.

Das Auto!! — This is a great old car. Still reliable. Great Quality and performs well. It has required very little maintenance and only regular spring and fall tuneup. It's been a great little car to drive. With just over 121,333 KMs it's not even broken in. I love the colour of my car....Baltic! Not blue, not green. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Metalic Blue 2001 Jetta Gls — i love how easy it is to work on. i've got a magnaflow 3 inch straight pipe (no catalytic converter) and AEM cold air intake. the stock wheels were ugly as hell so i put scorpion pioson series 18x7 1/2 wheels and blue streak stiletto 18x225 rubber. this car is an amazing performer for the money and i have had no electrical or mechanical problems. id guess mileage at about 33 highway and it topped 145 at 3/4 throttle. i cant imagin life without this car.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T Review
ProsSmooth ride. Turbo is quick and peppy. Reliable. Relatively low cost maintenance compared to other cars - about average. Good gas saver. ConsSmall for a growing family 2+ kids and car seats, stroller, etc. Can get pretty tight. Turbo needs to be warmed up for a few minutes. Proprietary parts must be purchased from VW dealer.

A Little Taste Of German Engineering — Good looks - small, trim and tight Car is built with German style - heavier sheet metal than Japanese cars. Doors are solid. Rattles here and there - normal wear and tear. Very Reliable - easy maintenance. Costs about the same as any car. Fuel saver if driven smart. Performance is great. Delightfully surprising acceleration for a heavy car. Braking is normal. Handling is good and tight. VW Jetta is known for its safety and you can feel it when compared to other cars in its class. Feels solid and secure, but yet peppy and fun to accelerate up the free way. Primary Use: Family transportation

Good Car And Lasts For Ever — Performance - acceleration not so graeat Performance - braking pretty good Performance -real good ive made some tweaks so the back right wheeldoesnt come off the ground in hard left turns like most of them did along with a lot of other cars Build Quality -its needed some repairs mostly from me racing and stuff but its a 1.8 L with a turbo and ive needed to replace the turbo and the clutch went last year so it gave me a ood excuse to get a lighter race clutch no squeeks or rattles that ive found yet Appearance - pretty good if your someone that like that curved styling but me personmally i like the older ones like 85-00 my self but this ones growing one me the interior is pretty good its a mid level car so it pretty roomy and comfy Cost of Ownership - petty low ok on gas and not much heavy maintence i mean like oil changes and wheel allignment but really thats it Fun Factor - this car is really fun to drive i race it a lot and i really like it Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsFun, utilitarian, reliable, solid, peppy ConsRepairs/parts are expensive, some quality control issues

Great Car At Good Price, Been Very Solid For Me. — Solid car, mostly reliable - for example, still original clutch at 180k. Occasional annoying mechanical issues and recalls. Peppy, but annoyed that the engine was limited to 150hp. Fun car to drive! It's been pretty cheap to own, just a few major repairs. The replacement parts (and service at the Stealership) can be pretty expensive though. I've made several updates and upgrades; a Cold Air Intake, upgraded Diverter Valve, short shift, etc... It's a cool car, but it's about to be replaced, I think... |
