Pros

I like the jeep because it has a rugged look once lifted. The 4x4 is very capable and there are seats for 5.

Cons

Solid front axle does not drive on the paved roads very well after the jeep is lifted.

Very Capable, Upgradable, And Reliable Off Road Vehicle. — I love my jeep because it looks awesome and 4x4's very well. I have front and rear air lockers which make my jeep very capable. However the engine is load and could use more power. The front end sways and swerves on paved roads.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Nearly everything.  Only vehicle I ever owned that absolutely nothing broke on it in amost 100,000 miles.

Cons

Choppy bouncy ride (it's a Jeep, not a Cadillac!), rear seat/doors only really useable for children.

One Of The Best Vehicles Ever Built By Any Manufacturer! — This is one vehicle I really regret ever getting rid of. I loved everything about it except the small-ish rear seat and poor rear seat entry thru the skinny doors. I rarely carried passengers though. The 4.0L I6 paired with the Aisin-Warner AW4 transmission made for a blazing fast combination in a vehicle this lightweight. It would shame many the unsuspecting sports car or "ricer" that tried racing me. The ride quality wasn't very good, but it's a Jeep...Who cares? They're not supposed to ride good! MPG was excellent. I averaged 20 MPG and that was with a somewhat heavy foot. The Jeep XJ Cherokee in my opinion was one of the most indestructible vehicles ever produced, and I was saddened when they replaced it with the ugly "me too" SUV called the Liberty.

Pros

Handling in the Snow is wonderful!  Love the off road capabilities, tight turn radius makes parking lots a breeze.  Love the classic Jeep Cherokee look.

Cons

Not very roomy for a family of 5.  Gas mileage is not great for long trips.

Agressive And Fun To Drive. — Love mostly everything about this car except the roominess now that we have a family of 5. Would buy this car again and again. Road noise is an issue once we are on the freeway, but that seems to be normal with jeeps of this era.

Its A Good Starter Car. — this is a veryy great car over all this is a perfect car other than the small cracks in the paint that you only see in extreams of heat. also the a/c does not work at all. cool air puled through from out side and the windows are good enough though. the acceleration is awesome. better then some cars that iv been in. braking is squshy. fast and can lock but squshy. front disk brakes and rear drum brakes. handling is awesome. havnt fliped yet. i have heard snaps from the plastic dashboard from shrinking and streching due to tempurature. all black inside and teal sparkle blue out side. small door dings on driver side door. about 18-20mpg. no maintenance.all oils are clean. i love to drive this car.

Clean/clear — This is overall a great vehicle and will last a very long time as long as it continues to recieve its proper service. This vehicle is spacious, clean inside and out, and has not been in any accidents. The vehicle has traveld to new york and back with no issues.

Absolutely love the old style Cherokee!  Great space, reliable, and fun!

Cons

There are no cup holders in the back seat for passengers...

Filthy Dirty Jeep Girl — The old style Cherokee is by far my first choice for a play toy. There is so much you can add, change, and upgrade on these vehicles for fairly cheap. Many companys have specific parts and accessory magazines just for Cherokee Sport enthusiasts. Fun to take off roading or drive around town, gas mileage is not the greatest.

Utility, REAL 4wd, looks, Its a jeep

Cons

IF you want good mileage, and lots of room, look elsewhere.

Its A Real Suv, With Real 4wd, And A Real Reputation. — Its a Jeep, it was designed before Chrysler. In fact it is why Chrysler bought AMC. The AMC 242 is indestructible, with more than enough power for the lightweight XJ. Its not the roomiest, or fanciest, but I think it is beautiful, and is tough as nails. Its no sports car but hey.. does it look like one? I plan on having this jeep for as long as it lasts, and then some!

Pros

4x$ ability

Cons

Fuel consumption and second hand value

Good Workhorse — Although a very good 4X4 fuel consumption and cost of ownership made me sell this vehicle. The cost of parts and services once out of motorplan killed me. The car had no second hand value and I lost money on trading it. It was a good solid worker but the 4X4 trails took its toll resulting in many sqeaks and rattles.
