It's A Nice Car. — The steering wheel is really tight and annoying. It is ok on gas mileage, for it's age I would say it's been a very nice car. I would definetly consider buying another Nissan or even another X-Terra when given the oppurtunity. They are fairly inexpensive to fix(compared to my parents VW's). It takes a while for it to rev up and it brakes slower too but I like it. Primary Use: Family transportation

Everything You Need, Nothing You Dont — Brought this one week one of the release in the iconic silver and immediately took it to the dunes in Mexico to give it a right thrashing. Loved everything this truck represented, and used it for all of them; climbing, biking, hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, camping, yada, yada... Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

X — Performance of the 2000 Xtrerra XE V6 is a little weak. The ride is smooth, and it looks great. Gas mileage is a little low, but its what you sacrafice for this beast. Good offroad, 2wd and 4wd. Maintenance is cheap. Very reliable and easy to love. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Love A Good Xterra — Slow at highway speeds you need to rev it. It gets almost 15 miles to the gallon average and I live in Los Angeles so its a solid mixture of road and highway. Very fun to drive I am able to abuse mine all through the concrete jungle and not have to worry about breaking anything. I put 31x10.50x15 tires on it though as I used to live in Michigan. I've had it about 60,000 miles now and never had to replace anything. The previous owner was the original owner and said the same thing. 135k miles now and the exhaust gasket is leaking but that can be put off a year or two.

No-nonsense Suv — There are no frills to this SUV - at least not fancy frills. Although, as one of the active people for whom this car was designed, I do consider stuff like the roof-top basket (great for holding drippy wetsuits on the drive home) and the removable cup-holder liners to be frills of a sort! I would have liked the water-resistant seats for my Labrador, who is always swimming, but they weren't available yet when I purchased mine. And how can I forget that very practical first-aid kit integrated with the tailgate: what a smart idea! And YES--I have needed to use it. With my previous car on its last legs in 1999, I was in the market but nothing really grabbed me. Then the Xterra was born, and it was what I'd been waiting for. I bought it in the first model year and haven't had a speck of regret in any way. I got lucky and found a manual transmission in the color I wanted (nope--not the yellow); they told me it was the only one in the Northeast. It's a wonderful car that really suits my lifestyle. My dog is huge and he takes up the entire backseat, but I still have ample room for the stuff I have to take along on a weeklong road trip. In seven years it has only broken down once, and that was due to a problem with road salt decaying something in the vicinity of the fuel pump. This was a recall issue, so it did not cost me. Changes were made to the Xterra in subsequent years, but I still prefer the look of my original model: squarish headlights and a little less plastic on the exterior. I plan to keep it even for some time after I find myself picking pieces of it off the road. Owner for 6 years, 11 months Miles Driven per Year:20,000 |
