Pros

With V10 excellent power and room for a family of six, dog, Grandmom and GrandDad and groceries.

Cons

Paint on luggage rack and plastic trim fades and flakes faster than metal parts or comparable plastic parts on a Suburban of the same age. Coil-on-plug can be a hassle to replace, especially on back two pairs of cylinders near firewall on the V10.

The Family Beast-mobile — I'm very happy with the family beast-mobile. I only wish Ford had continued producing these. I would buy another one, probably a 2004 or 2005, with under 100,000 miles used. I'd stay away from the 6.0L diesel--way too many problems with these. The V10 gasser has been plenty adequate for our level of driving (about 4800 miles per year). The ride is not as smooth as that of my 1999 1500 Suburban, but then again, the Excursion is really an F250 pickup truck chassis with a wagon top, so I'm not surprised, nor really disappointed. I'd rather have the extra room and power of the Excursion over the Suburban anyhow.

Beast — Wish I could afford to buy a newer vehicle. Besides being big enough to hold my family, it drains our family's funds but we have to have it to get around without taking two other smaller vehicles. The big engine sucks gas and costs an arm and a leg to maintain.

Pros

Great big suv for those large families. Tons of elbow room. Its a tank and you feel truly safe.

Cons

Takes tons of fuel and blows right through it. Turning or making u turns is horrible. You need plenty of space to stop one of these too.

Great Vehicle For A Growing Or Active Family — You can personalize your excursion with all kinds of after maket things. She pulls and is tough as you can get in a suv. Her engine is almost bullet proof with all the wear these older cars get. For being 14 old they seem brand new with little or no problems It seats 8 with more than enough leg room. You can pack for days with all the cargo space in the back and then you still have the roof rack too. would definitely buy this again.

Great Vehicle. — I can not complain with mine having seating for 8 and being able to hold as much as a regular SUV cargo area, the fuel economy is outstanding, I am getting 30 MPG Highway, yes, it is a diesel, but I can not complain, I only fill it up once a month, it handles quite well, it looks good on both the inside and the outside, it is a great vehicle for going on ski trips, vacations, RVing, or whatever you need to do, it is remarkably agile and other than a few run of the mill issues, everything on the vehicle is working like a dream.

Heavy Duty, Dependable, Tough Ass And Still A Luxury Vehicle — this truck has style and performance with a v10 engine... never has givin any problems, and will never as long as there is always proper maintainance...as any owner should remember! only 1 recall from ford on the cruise control peice...wich ford took care of... gas prices do not help since she averages just about 15 mph highway....but with a knn air filter put on ...that helps a bit...big truck strong hauling capabilities and still lux looking interrior...leather seats wood grain dash peice and console... we love it!!

Nice And Roomy — With two tall teenage son's it was a necessity to have a larger vehicle. Plus my husband loves the "get-up-n-go" that it has with the V-10. But the gas range could be better in today's economy.

Pros

Fit 8 people comfortably (I would say even better than the Suburban), tons of cargo space.

Cons

Big, ugly and handled like crap. Inside felt plasticky and cheap.  Gas mileage is the worst I've ever seen.

Avoid, Go Get A Suburban Instead — Had it for 2 months and was glad to be rid of it. Terrible handling, horrible gas mileage and poorly built.

Worth Every Penny! — the 5.4 liter...has blown three plugs....found out its very common...But ford wont recall this engine cause it is in millions of cars....there are even websites griping about this issue... i love this truck but DO NOT BUY THE 5.4.....this truck is STILL worth every penny.

Pros

Room for the whole family and our dogs while still pulling our trailer.

Cons

Needs a few upgrades to be perfect out of the box.

It's Awesome — The ultimate SUV with the ultimate engine and transmission. With this combo, it gets over 20 mpg and can still tow like a truck. The 12V cummins is the most simple and reliable engine available for light trucks. Some upgrades are needed to make this SUV completely bulletproof.

Very reliable, very big, very strong.. everything you want and expect from the largest suv in the market.

Cons

If you are even looking at this beast, fuel consumption shouldn't be an issue.

I Love My Excursion. So Much So, That If I Don't Sell It.. I'm Completely Happy Keeping It Forever. — The only thing I don't like about this truck is it is very hard reaching the back spark plugs.. the engine is HUGE and goes on forever Ü. Can haul anything, anywhere... As a basketball coach and a boater - I've had no problems carrying things .
