The 5-speed manual transmission comes standard, and together, give the 2000 Dodge Stratus SE 26/37 miles per gallon, substantially more than the ES. And most of the options available in the ES are also available in the SE, including leather seats and a moonroof.
The 2000 Dodge Stratus SE is the less expensive trim, and there seems to be a reason. A substantial number of the owner reviews of the 2000 Dodge Stratus SE had negative things to say, everything from the brakes to the transmission and then up the cupholders. There were good things said about the car, from its spaciousness to the reliability, but there were enough complaints that anyone looking into a 2000 Dodge Stratus SE should be wary.

The 2000 Dodge Stratus ES is the comfort and power model of the Dodge Stratus. With a standard 2.5-liter V6 capable of 168 hp, the ES comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Because it is a V6, the 2000 Dodge Stratus SE gets 19/27 mpg. Cruise control comes standard in the ES, and the list of options is long and distinguished, including a CD changer, multi-adjustable power seats, and a power moonroof.
Overall, owners were very happy with the 2000 Dodge Stratus ES. A few people had problems with the transmission and the brakes, but ratings for the ES seemed to be much better than ratings for the 2000 Dodge Stratus overall. Owners appear to be saying that if you’re going to get a 2000 Dodge Stratus, the ES is a better bet than the SE.
