Pros

I bought my explorer in May of 2012 at a auto auction, and knew I was going to have to put a lot of money into the explorer to fix all the mechanical problems.  I spent $ 3,260 to have the transmission rebuilt, replaced the torque converter, replaced the transmission oil cooler, and the front and rear differential gears had all the seals replaced and new gear oil installed.  Also, the transfer case was removed from the explorer and replaced all the internal seals and gear oil. Then reinstalled. I also spent over $ 2,000 replacing all 4 brake pads and brake rotors, I replaced the muffler and tail pipe, I replaced the rear drive shaft u joint too. The spark plugs were also replaced, and the intake manifold was cleaned. The main battery was replaced and I replaced 2 tires too. I also replaced the engine hood hold up actuators and the replaced the rear hatch hold up actuators. I serviced the air conditioning system with R34 freon and the air condition system works great. I planned on staying in nebraska for many years, so I spent $ 5,300 fixing all the mechanical problems on the Explorer, but, I got a divorce in 2014 and now I am moving to Las Vegas this summer and do not need a 4 wheel drive SUV, and also need the money not move to Las Vegas.

Cons

The gas mileage is only 14 MPG in the City and 18 MPG on the highway.

My Explorer Is A Nice Driving Suv And Is A Safe Suv For Driving Your Whole Family Around Town — I love my 1998 explorer and regret having to sell it, but I need the money to move to Las Vegas this summer. I know I am asking about $ 1,200 above book value, but I put $ 5,300 fixing all the mechanical problems the first years I owned the explorer. I have owned the explorer since May 2012 and only put 13,000 miles on it because I am retired now and do not drive much anymore. This is a great deal for someone that can appreciate all the work I did on the explorer. Also, I have all the maintenance bills for all the money I spent on the explorer. Also, I am the third owner, and me and both the other 2 previous owners kept good maintenance records. I have a stack of receipts and maintenance records for this explorer.

Pros

Great SUV, fun, easy to repair (if needed)

Cons

Gas prices suck and this isn't so easy on ur wallet

Ford Explorer 2 Door Sport. 4.0 Sohc Ho V6 — I bought the SUV from my grandpa in April of 08. It only had 105,000 miles on and it runs like a champ. Really fast, sturdy, and fun SUV. Good job Ford. The SUV doesn't get many looks but when i those annoying guys in the riced out civics and crap pull up next to me and rev their little 1.8 litre 4 bangers i just laugh and step on the pedal and the awesome sound from my tailpipe just shuts em up. Aceleration in first gear may not be the best but second gear is the power gear. I can pull 50 in 1st gear almost 85 in 2nd gear and i havent really taken past 108 in 3rd so i'm not 100% sure about the rest but the point is, for a HO V6 this thing can boogey. Gas milage leaves a little to be desired but with a cold air intake, header back exhaust, hotter plugs, and some good tires the SUV would gain at least 50 HP and about 10 MPG. Bringin it from 20 some to 30 some hopefully. Not bad for my second vehicle

Its Called An Exploreer For A Reason! — great all round vehicle, strong runner with comfortable handling. the all wheel drive system makes for the complete package. Quiet interior with a quality sound system. Plenty of ground clearance for off road fun! Good acceleration whether towing or crawling thru the mud!

Pros

24MPG from a 5600lb 98 SUV?  Pretty damn good

Cons

Doesn't have overwhelming power.. if you're looking for that, grab the Eddie Bauer edition with the 5.0L

45

She's A Hottie — Been a great truck so far. Amazing fuel economy considering how old it is. The little 4.0L needs to downshift when going up a hill, but it usually has enough pep when needed. It's fun enough, and has the sex appeal too. Pretty sound truck as well. Keep her maintained, and she'll treat you great.. don't maintain her, she'll still treat you good

Pros

The turning radius is epic.

Cons

The interior by far. Performance is a little low as well.

35

Eh? — Performance overall is not great. Will go without the air conditioner. The interior could use a definite upgrade. Mine is in near perfect appearance so i would say good but they definitely aren't pretty. I average around 21 in the summer and 18 during the school year. I have a manual. General offroading is ok. The ride is no good though.

The Beast — The radio doesn't stay in, not the best acceleration...transmission makes awkward noisees when sitting...the doors are kinda hard to open...someone shot a paintball at the floor on the inside!!! The Vin number comes up as two different things (Eddie Bauer 2WD and Explorer Sport 4WD), the paint is chipped, there are lots of dings...but overall it's pretty nice. Great back seat, it folds flat ;)

1998 Ford Explorer 4wd Limited 4dr V8 — Its a good car, but needs to be replace because it is burning oil and has some body damage. The newer models of the car a little better designed with a few modifications but still have many of the same benefits that my car currently has. The Explorer Limited 4WD V8 cost approximately $35,000-$45,000 to purchase depending on the options included on the car. Hope you enjoy.

Reliable And American — Quality is great on the ford explorer, feal as if it can go on forever. It is not a sportscar but you do feal it has power. The cost is a bit high due to the fact that it is heavy and poweful. And for gods sake get it in manual and you wont even want to drive a ferrari.

Pros

nice features like it tells you how many miles you've gone and your mileage

Cons

everything else :)

35

Poo — man the overall performance of this thing pretty much sucked, it used up sooo much gas in soo little time it was unbelievable! the cost of the car itself was decent but the cost of actually owning this crap was an outrage it got 12 miles to the gallon and i had to repair twice a month at least i would not recommend this car to anyone
