Its Called An Exploreer For A Reason! — great all round vehicle, strong runner with comfortable handling. the all wheel drive system makes for the complete package. Quiet interior with a quality sound system. Plenty of ground clearance for off road fun! Good acceleration whether towing or crawling thru the mud!

Pros

24MPG from a 5600lb 98 SUV?  Pretty damn good

Cons

Doesn't have overwhelming power.. if you're looking for that, grab the Eddie Bauer edition with the 5.0L

She's A Hottie — Been a great truck so far. Amazing fuel economy considering how old it is. The little 4.0L needs to downshift when going up a hill, but it usually has enough pep when needed. It's fun enough, and has the sex appeal too. Pretty sound truck as well. Keep her maintained, and she'll treat you great.. don't maintain her, she'll still treat you good

1998 Ford Explorer 4wd Limited 4dr V8 — Its a good car, but needs to be replace because it is burning oil and has some body damage. The newer models of the car a little better designed with a few modifications but still have many of the same benefits that my car currently has. The Explorer Limited 4WD V8 cost approximately $35,000-$45,000 to purchase depending on the options included on the car. Hope you enjoy.

The Longer I Had The Car The More I Liked It. — We bought it with 60k miles in 2002 and it now has 170k in 2013. The only repairs were the radiator, front a-arms bushing were squeaking and the whole arms had to be replaced. The torque coverter is starting to develope a shudder. It went through 2 kids learning to drive.

This Car Was Our 4th Ford Vehicle And We Had Another Explorer After This One. — In all these years, my husband maintained the car regularly and we never had any issues. Very good reliable car. Bought another Explorer which made it our 4th, because we loved the car that much. Now that my husband passed away, I am trying to get a smaller SUV.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros

I like the roomyness, comfort of the seats on long trips, 4x4 and looks most.

Cons

I hate the gas mileage ang the severe lack of power it has.

Worth It — This suv is alot bigger inside than it looks. Very comfortable on long trips and a nice ride. It doesn't have alot of power for acceleration and is really a dog on hills but it's fine for normal everyday driving. Gas mileage around town is horrible but it's not too bad on the highway about 10mpg city 15 highway. Parts to repair it if it breaks down which isnt that often are reasonable. I really like it.

Pros

I love the V8 power and sound.

Cons

I hate the full-time AWD

Great Winter Suv, Cant Beat The Sound And Power Of The Tried And True 5.0l V8 — Even though it weighs a hefty 4330 lbs the explorer 5.0l v8 really gets up and goes. The sound of the magnaflow exhaust is addicting and it is so much fun to drive. Overall this vehicle has had common problems that most ford vehicles suffer from. Like radiator, lower ball joints, water pump, and other normal maintenance. Overall this is a strong runner and very reliable vehicle.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
