Its Called An Exploreer For A Reason! — great all round vehicle, strong runner with comfortable handling. the all wheel drive system makes for the complete package. Quiet interior with a quality sound system. Plenty of ground clearance for off road fun! Good acceleration whether towing or crawling thru the mud! Primary Use: Commuting to work

Ford Explorer 2 Door Sport. 4.0 Sohc Ho V6 — I bought the SUV from my grandpa in April of 08. It only had 105,000 miles on and it runs like a champ. Really fast, sturdy, and fun SUV. Good job Ford. The SUV doesn't get many looks but when i those annoying guys in the riced out civics and crap pull up next to me and rev their little 1.8 litre 4 bangers i just laugh and step on the pedal and the awesome sound from my tailpipe just shuts em up. Aceleration in first gear may not be the best but second gear is the power gear. I can pull 50 in 1st gear almost 85 in 2nd gear and i havent really taken past 108 in 3rd so i'm not 100% sure about the rest but the point is, for a HO V6 this thing can boogey. Gas milage leaves a little to be desired but with a cold air intake, header back exhaust, hotter plugs, and some good tires the SUV would gain at least 50 HP and about 10 MPG. Bringin it from 20 some to 30 some hopefully. Not bad for my second vehicle

The Beast — The radio doesn't stay in, not the best acceleration...transmission makes awkward noisees when sitting...the doors are kinda hard to open...someone shot a paintball at the floor on the inside!!! The Vin number comes up as two different things (Eddie Bauer 2WD and Explorer Sport 4WD), the paint is chipped, there are lots of dings...but overall it's pretty nice. Great back seat, it folds flat ;)

The Longer I Had The Car The More I Liked It. — We bought it with 60k miles in 2002 and it now has 170k in 2013. The only repairs were the radiator, front a-arms bushing were squeaking and the whole arms had to be replaced. The torque coverter is starting to develope a shudder. It went through 2 kids learning to drive. Primary Use: Family transportation

This Car Was Our 4th Ford Vehicle And We Had Another Explorer After This One. — In all these years, my husband maintained the car regularly and we never had any issues. Very good reliable car. Bought another Explorer which made it our 4th, because we loved the car that much. Now that my husband passed away, I am trying to get a smaller SUV. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

ProsI like the roomyness, comfort of the seats on long trips, 4x4 and looks most. ConsI hate the gas mileage ang the severe lack of power it has.

Worth It — This suv is alot bigger inside than it looks. Very comfortable on long trips and a nice ride. It doesn't have alot of power for acceleration and is really a dog on hills but it's fine for normal everyday driving. Gas mileage around town is horrible but it's not too bad on the highway about 10mpg city 15 highway. Parts to repair it if it breaks down which isnt that often are reasonable. I really like it. Primary Use: Commuting to work

Great Winter Suv, Cant Beat The Sound And Power Of The Tried And True 5.0l V8 — Even though it weighs a hefty 4330 lbs the explorer 5.0l v8 really gets up and goes. The sound of the magnaflow exhaust is addicting and it is so much fun to drive. Overall this vehicle has had common problems that most ford vehicles suffer from. Like radiator, lower ball joints, water pump, and other normal maintenance. Overall this is a strong runner and very reliable vehicle. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
