Owned One For 14 Years — I bought this car new, and I still own it. It now has 171,ooo miles on it and the only problem we've had is with the a/c compressor which I've had to replace twice. It gets 40+ mpg on the highway and is very comfortable to travel in. It's still an econobox and not the most exciting car in the world to drive, but it's super dependable and really, really cheap to own and operate. I wish Mazda still built it, because I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

Pros

Good mileage around town, great shocks

Cons

Poor highway mileage due to the higher RPMS, its geared for around town.

Alice (95 Mazda Protege) — The car is decent, good for around town. Acceleration is kind of slow, it handles well, and has fantastic shocks. We've only had to fix the exhaust system one, and that was a cinch. Around town, its great on gas, about 33 miles to the gallon if you drive her right. As for fun to drive...if you don't mind listening to a ricer whine, its pretty good. Its great for bumps and such, plus it has pulled out of some tough scrapes. Unfortunately, the car is geared so that at about fifth gear, you're running 35 mph, and above 45 mph your gas mileage goes to hell.

Pros

It's a really great car, I love it. It's 17 years old, gets 36 MPG Hwy, 32 MPG City. I only paid $600 for the car 5 years ago, it's got just over 214,000. Only major problems I had, replaced the distributer, starter, alternator, and replaced the fuel pump twice.

Cons

Parts are expensive, that's about it.

Great Car — I really like the car, it's great on gas, small and easy to drive and maneuver. Great for a daily driver to and from work. The things I don't like about it, slow at takeoff and parts are pretty expensive where I live, other than that, it's a great car, I've owned mine for 5 years and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

You Could Probably Find Mine In Olathe At A Used Car Dealership For A Couple Hundred. — I never drove it when it was in good condition, but i learned how to drive stickshift on it, which was pretty difficult considering the tranny was about to drop out any second and the fuel tank about to rupture & explode the car... l

Worth The Money, Lasted Very Well! — We bought this car used in 2000, it had 83000 miles on it then. it now has 120000 and still running great! we've done only a couple major repairs and normal maintainence. great gas mileage being a 5 speed. very dependable over all.

Great For A Kids First Car. — Handled well. Good first car. Had small rust spots from living in Wi. It was just a little beater car. Did normal maintenance i.e oil changes. Not a sports car or anything, but fun to drive being a little 4 popper. Amazing gas mileage.

My Car — I like that it gets about 30 miles to the gallon. Although, my belt broke last week, and i was stuck on the side of the road for about an hour, in the frigid cold. Overall, a good car, but i would much rather have a Ford.
