Pros

Extremely durable drivetrain.  Decent milage.  Looks nice.  Unstoppable with snow tires.  Everything simple and basic.  Impresses the ladies.

Cons

Rust.  Limited power.  Rust.  Brake dive.  Rust.  Small cab.  Rust.  Very few accessories, at least in my truck.  Rust.

Taliban Tank — 1992 Toyota Pickup 4x4 4cyl, 5 speed 150,000 miles, purchased at 30,000 miles. Pros - Very simple and straight forward vehicle. 24mpg in 2wd on highway. Only broke down once in over 10 years, due to a corroded wire leading to the fuel pump. Survived many Detroit and Wisconsin winters, easy and fun to 4wd drift through corners at high speed in snow. Also survived accidental hitting and driving over of many things (tv set, curbs, small tree, etc) that probably would have seriously damaged more fancy trucks. Great climate control. No a/c necessary, except in stop and go traffic. Comfortable bench seat. Very easy to drive. Cheap insurance. Good resale value. Cons - Body disintegrated. Engine slightly more powerful than a hamster in a wheel, so no towing anything remotely heavy. Though I did beat a 70's Land Cruiser in a drag-race down a very bumpy alley once. Rear drums had a tendency to lock-up when humid. Lots of front end dive during braking. Trail braking not recommended. Exhaust apparently made out of untreated body panels. Everything including the manifold had to be replaced. No tach. No cruise control. No low fuel light (leading to me, and my ADD, running out of gas more than once). I don't know what options were available. Very limited interior space with standard cab. Tall peoples' knees will hit glove box.

Pros

Reliability, great MPG, awesome hauling capacity, crampped, but legal seating for 5, cheap to repair, solid and unkillable workhorse.

Cons

Not much power, the seating is a bit cramped for backseat passengers, the oil filter is difficult to remove.

The Most Reliable Pickup That Money Can Buy. — 1992 Toyota Pickup DLX Xtra Cab 2WD Performance The 22R-E engine is a bit slow, but I heard that the 6 cylinder is not much faster. Stock performance from this truck is definitely enough to get any job done, whether its hauling furniture to a dorm room or pulling out a tree stump. The brakes stop the car well, but it would be nice to have ABS as a precautionary measure. Steering and handling is responsive, but it's nowhere near the handling you would receive from a car. Build Quality This truck is very reliable! The repairs are fairly inexpensive and as long as you keep up with the required maintenance (oil changes, oil filter, air filter) the truck should last you for a very long time. Appearance The stock paint on the truck is still glossy from 1992. It's definitely lasted and stood the test of time. The grille is another story. After 430,000 miles, the original grille starts to lose the shiny metallic luster. Body wise, this pickup looks like your average-joe, run-of-the-mill truck. Cost of Ownership The 4 cylinder, 2WD definitely saves gas. with a 13.7 gallon tank, I get about 350-400 on a tank. City mileage is a bit low, but driving on the highway, I average about 31-33 MPG. Fun Factor Trucks are trucks. I suppose you could have fun going off roading in a 4X4, but it being a 2WD, it has to stay on the paved asphalt. More horsepower and better handling would be great, but for a 1992 truck, the drive is very responsive. I wouldn't say that driving the pickup is fun, but the peace of mind and reliability you get from driving one is definitely a plus. The 1992 pickup is a very sturdy, solid, and reliable truck. I inherited this truck from my uncle 2 years ago with 397,000 miles. Presently, at 430,000 miles, the truck is still running like a champ. It definitely has its pros and cons, but is a very practical, useful, and desired truck - especially now with gas prices soaring at $5 a gallon.

Pros

Fun to drive in the mud.

Cons

It doesn't have a lift kit.

55

A Fun Mud Buggy — This truck is very light, which makes going through the mud a simple and fun task. The 4 cyl. motor is like a timex watch "takes a licking and keeps on ticking". It gets decent gas mileage for a 4wd, in the region of 17 to 19 mpg when running a little off, which it will do at some times. But other than that a dependable ride.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

invincible engine

Cons

body rusts faster than a nail

35

The Toybota — All that needs to be said is Top Gear. Watch their multi-part episode of reviewing the HiLux, the euro version of the same toyota pickup. It's slightly indestructible. As all Japanese cars, invincible mechanics paired with a crappy body. Also watch Toybota for a good laugh.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

goes ANYWHERE

Cons

not fast, 0-60 in like 28 seconds

55

Prefect Truck For Me, Great Work Truck — I like how it is able to go anywhere!!, but I don't like how slow and underpowered it is. The engine isn't the best design either. Who in their right mind has the waterpump powered by a timing belt? oh well. It gets decent mileage. not fast AT ALL though. It is pretty fun to drive though, despite it stalling occasionally, due it how underpowered it is. the drive train is excelent though. its handeling is GREAT, off road, highway, it sucks.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

1992 Toyota Pickup 2 Dr Std Standard Cab Sb — It a well built truck it held up well in the woods when i first got it. i lowered it and street raced it and it beat most stock mustangs. its a blast to drive and its cheap on gas, cheap and easy to maintain. i think its a beautiful truck and with a few mods to a stock one you can turn heads all day. reliable

Pros

its rocks on road or off!

Cons

its old, parts are very hard to come by

25

Its Great — It Has a 22RE best toyota Four banger!! I don't like standard cabs becasue they dont have enough room in the cab. This car can be outfitted for off road, or bagged if thats how you roll, it also gets 20 mpg and it will go over 100 and the engine is brake proof, almost!

Pros

go through anything, 4x4 worked great

Cons

not enough power to get out of its own way on the highway, cost

92 Toy Pickup — I loved this truck, I bought it cheap and it needed a motor, i put a used motor in it and it never ran right. :( this truck was built as tough as them come, over sized 4 piston disk brakes on the front and huge drum brakes on the rear, the rear axle on this thing will turn 38" tires with the right gears and not break. this thing was built to be bullet proof and was. I just had a crappy motor

Pros

33-mpg highway
Reliable engine
5-speed
Ext. cab
Good heat and air

Cons

Rides low
Paint needs work
No 4-wheel drive

65

Amazing Mileage. — Toyota's great. This truck gets 33 mpg (with a little bit of timing and gearing adjusting)!!! Otherwise it's your basic, itsy bitsy extended cab. The red color is kind of unappealing, and the topcoat is peeling, and the "TOYOTA" decal peeled off the tailgate, but this truck is all about the reliability of its 22-RE and 5-speed mileage. This truck does not have 4-wheel drive, but is rear-wheel.
