1992 Dodge Shadow 2 Dr ES Convertible Review

Quintessentially Lnny! — Now if there ever was a defining moment in my life, it would be the period when I owned the 1992 Dodge Shadow convertible. First of all, it had all the requirements I wanted in a car. It was red. It was convertible. It had pep. It was reliable. It was low maintenance. Uses gas efficiently. It was good looking. And if they say a car embodies the person that you are,, It kind of reminded me of...ME! Dodge even made a bra for it. Finally a vehicle in my life reliable enough to take me to all the high points, low points, and everything in between. Even the name, Shadow, foretold a forboding journey of my life. Like my previous experiences with convertibles, this convertible had a knack for leaking. There were moments when I had standing water on the car floor. So this was probably my first boat too. The amount of moisture that got into this car prematurily mildewed the plastic back window that i could never afford to replace and created a terrible blindspot. That back window was designed with only velcro and a zipper that I used as an emergency door in case I locked my keys in the car which seemed to happen alot in those irresponsible years. It was also the entrance for car thieves as this car was broken into many times and stolen once in Alexandria, VA. The Shadow had alot of pep and power. Acceleration was mighty and I was even clocked by Prince Georges County police at 72mph on a 55 limit. I was told I was only 3 mph away from felonious speeding. But no matter what county i was in, it seemed the police pestered me on the account of the Shadow. Like the time when the automatic passenger window stopped working so I removed the inner panel to fix it, took a drive without putting it back on, and Fairfax county police thought I had stolen the Shadow. The Shadow didn't always get me into trouble. It was there for me when I had no place to live for a brief moment in my young life with flat reclining seats. It was also there for me when I started picking up hitchhikers as well as transporting large furniture with the top down. I won't even talk about how I decided to decorate the interior of the Shadow with fake grapes. But it allowed freedom and zaniness. It was truly a fun to drive car. It was the party cruiser that allowed me to see many sunsets and some sunrises. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) |

ProsAside from the heater, it was a very reliable lil Mopar ConsThe inside hood release broke a few times, how they opened the hood, I have no idea.

Lil Red -the Best Shadow — Aka 'Lil Red'. It was the replacement for my Skyhawk. This car was a tank, having lasted with 233000kms and being rear-ended by a semi with only a crack to the bumper bracket. The only thing that was a perennial problem was the heater. Garbage! Had it 'fixed' six times before finally giving up (and I hate the cold!). Cute, but ugly, like a pug. |
