An Up Comeing Truck? — it was very peppy, had to do a lot of work to make it good looking, but never broke down... very good truck. only thing that had to be replaced was the transmission it was a very good truck. i couldn't have been happier with a first vehicle than that one.

Truck runs very well. Good to drive, few blind spots.

Cons

Truck is a 4x4, so fuel economy is not great.

Love To Drive It — I bought this truck when it was 22 years old. I put a lot of work into the brakes, the heater and condenser, all of the hoses, and belts, and replaced the computer. When I bought it there was a camper shell on it. I took that off, and put a tonneau cover on it, that helped with the fuel economy, less weight and better profile. I love driving this truck, It's comfortable, and solid, has enough power, and it's a 4x4. Can't wait for some snow! LOL!

Lil Ol Dodge Puts Ford To Shame — this was an awesome truck... very tough even with over 228k original miles on it (no major engine work or transmission work), it still pulled a brand new (2007) Ford powerstroke with duallys and a tandem trailer with 11 tons of horse crap out of the mud... with no problem.. we managed to put over 298k miles on it before it finally needed its first major repair, and then it needed a new transmission... i would definately recommend it to my friends... in fact i'm getting another one myself...

Fun And Reliable — The newer Dodge Dakota is infamous due to its lack of power and uncomfortable ride and interior, but the first generation proves that a truck doesn't need fancy equipment. This truck has a unique ride and is fun to drive both on and off-road, but you have the be careful, this truck doesn't like to stop quickly or go around corners fast, If you can drive a vehicle while paying full attention to the road you should be fine though. This truck has un-believable off road capabilities and is very reliable and durable overall. If you want a cheap truck you can count on, and that will plaster melted rubber onto the street or get you across the most treacherous landscapes, and don't need any unnecessary equipment like heated seats or navigation, than get yourself one of these, you wont regret it.

It's Not What You Got, It's What You Do With It. — I got this truck in 2001 and it looked like something grandpa would drive around town, it came fully equipped with a camper shell. Since then I have made a lot of changes, those changes include: 3" Trailmaster Body Lift Brush Guard Mopar Roll Bar Sure Grip Rear End 355 Gears Duel Fan Setup K&N Air Filter Airaid Throttle Body Spacer Mopar Performace Computer Flowtech Headers Duel Exhaust Alpine Cd Deck Front Speakers: Rockford Fosgate Rear Speakers: Alpine 12" Duel Sub

2 Dakotas, 10 Plus Years — my first Dakota I had was a 95 sport club cab 4x4 that I bought in 96 with 40k, I sold it with great sorrow in 06 due to increasing rust (she spent all but the last year in N.H.) I left her with almost 200k of hard use, she still ran strong. about 2 weeks ago I picked up a 92 2wd club cab (rust free, Heaven) this one has the same V6 but this time backed with an AT instead, other than a few small repairs that where easy to do she is a very young 200k. I plan on having this one for quite a while. My first 'Kota developed my fondness for the gen 1 'Kota and my present one continues to solidify those feelings. Perfect size, good performance, good mpg, comfy ride and if you take care of her, she'll take care of you.

Pros

Sturdily built, solid construction in steel, not much plastic to snap and break loose. Good old fashioned American truck. Mid-sized, so not too hard to park or to maneuver through traffic.

Cons

Horrendous turn-radius. Three-point turns are now my specialty. Just above economy grade, so not a lot of options for those who like to remain comfortable.

Great Work Truck! — I love that my four-wheel drive has some gumption. I can climb any slick surface (I live in Colorado foothills) without slippage, and I love that the truck has a bench seat in front, like any good truck I remember from my childhood. Handles fairly well, minus the turn radius (parking lots can take some time), but does great in crawling. Good size bed, can transport most any piece of furniture or project material without having to attach a flag or leave the gate down. Easy to work on for the most part, the engine compartment is nice and roomy. Not a lot of busted knuckles. The oil filter is buried, though, and makes doing the most basic form of maintenance, an oil change, a bit of a project; easy to get under the truck without having to jack it up, on the other hand. Back seats are a joke, but who else has a truck that can legally seat 6 inside? Overall, this truck is a great truck. Parts are cheap and plentiful, easy to work on, useful as all get-out, and a pleasure to own and drive. I would not recommend seating six for more than thirty minutes, but I imagine that it would be great to drive a distance if it were only you or you and a friend. Easy to drive if your 5' 6" or taller, and virtually no blind spots, since you sit higher than the majority of the vehicle.

Won't Help You Pick Up Chicks, But Otherwise A Decent Vehicle. — It's old and ugly but it does it's job well. Strong engine but it handles like a motorhome. Could probably pull one though. Other than the random electrical problems and excessive rust, it's not bad. A good work truck. I wish the AC worked... I can't trace the short.

Great, Dependable, Sturdy Truck — i love everything about this truck the handling the braking the size. Just because it is a small truck does not necessarily mean that it cannot handle heavy tasks on its own i was amazed that it lasted me the 2 years i have owned it and it has not lost its power....except for the fact that i wrecked with minor cosmetic damage to my knowledge it is still running, IT IS A VERY DEPENDABLE TRUCK!

Pros

super fast for pick-up / its as if your driving a corvette the power is there / so much of it ,it will spin tire in 4th gear at 65mph from the factory, handle great no body roll in corners,

Cons

so much power the wheels dont hook up just spin, easy to slide out in the rain(no traction0 in water/ hard clutch peddle takes effort to drive/ low geared in first excessive road noise/ but not overly load managable.
