Not Your Grandfather's Oldsmobile — This is my 3rd Ninety Eight, though a Touring Sedan is a totally different car from the other 98s in the line.....for the load leveling FE3 suspension which actually lets the car perform very well for its time, as to be compared to the BMW 5 Series of that time. My car loved to eat batteries for some reason, other than that 98s are built well and can easily achieve 300k+ miles, it's 3800 is on the World's 10 best list and is called "Bulletproof." Touring Sedans are not flashing chrome everywhere like other 98s, minimal "bling" here. My Touring Sedan is a rare one, the only TS w/ a factory luggage rack I have seen, and unlike the black and gray combo, mine is gorgeous w/ dark red leather and a burl wood dash~ |

1990 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 4 Dr Touring Sedan Review
ProsThe Touring Sedan was really a launch platform for GM. Base price in 1990.......$26,750! After moonroof, Bose stereo upgrade, Factory Luggage Rack-----I have never seen another Touring Sedan w/ one, and other touches $29,750....what does that equate to in today's dollar?!? But then again production was stopped because the car was so expensive. Each Touring Sedan was inspected and signed for by a Top GM exec. Its 3800 V6 is on the "World's 10 Best List" and described as "bulletproof." Many 98s reached 300k+ miles. On the highway mpg factory rated at 29mpg, though the best I ever got on an 18.9 gal tank, 605 miles, about 36mpg. Extremely comfortable. VERY LITTLE chrome, unlike other 98s. She isn't a "blinger!" This is my 3rd 98, the 2 Regency Broughams I had were not even comparable to it! The FE3 suspension actually let this 98 achieve over a 0.82 on the skid pad back in its day, and still sticks well. ConsBrakes are super expensive to fix

Not Your Grandfather's Oldsmobile — I have owned since 1995, had 51k miles then, and 84k miles now. Still rides and handles better then many of today's cars. Touring Sedans were limited in production from 1987-1993, I do believe no more than 3000 a year, so just a small percentage of 98s made the grade. |
