I am restoring a 1928 Sport Coupe. The rumble seat lid was not worth salvaging. I purchased a reproduction lid but am having trouble with the fitting of the hinges to the brackets. My measurement between the body hinge points is 35". Mounting the original hinges and the old lid gives me an out to out dimension on the hinges of 34", leaving approximately 1/2" play on either side of the hinge pivot point and the mounting bracket. questions is: What should the out to out dimension be on the installed hinges on the new lid. I have read that a replacement lid and original hinges will not work. If you have a reproduction lid you need reproduction hinges. I need to know what the out to out dimension should be so as to determine if I need to shim anything.
I have a brand-new 6 volt battery. I have a recently reconditioned starter motor. The vehicle is a 1928 Model A roadster. When I engage the starter motor, it will turn the engine one revolution and then stop. If I re-engage the starter motor again, it does the same thing--one revolution and stops. With the plugs out, the starter turns the motor easily. There are no stuck valves. Why won't the starter motor turn the engine over long enough to start?
Should you add antifreeze to the cooling system of the 1928 Ford Model A. I've read both yes and no and would like to know what the true answer is. Does antifreeze do anything for the early Ford Model A?
