Beginning in 1996, when computers started taking over cars, you really shouldn't ever disconnect a battery, always use a memory saver. In your case, as Gene said, the theft- deterrent system was tripped. See that flashing red dot on your dashboard.

Did you accidentally press the 4 way flasher button on the top of the steering column? Jim
