I was interested in purchasing a vehicle priced around $10,000, but the experience left me uncomfortable. Before the vehicle was even detailed, before I had paid for an independent inspection, and while nearly $900 in DMV fees were being discussed, I was heavily encouraged to purchase a limited warranty for an additional $4,100. Adding a warranty costing over 40% of the vehicle’s price felt excessive and significantly changed the overall cost of the purchase. While I understand dealerships offer optional products, I felt too much emphasis was placed on selling the warranty rather than allowing me to make an informed decision about the vehicle itself. Buyers should carefully review all add-ons and understand the total out-the-door price before signing anything.
