This wasn’t your typical dealer experience. The owner and one other employee maintain a garage full of used cars, packed like sardines. The garage door remained closed during my visit, and none of it was moved to allow me to take a TV test drive. I was allowed to sit in it, and connect a code reader to analyze messages, of which h there were over 20. The owner made it clear he had had the smog check done. When I showed him the codes, he suggested I may not know how to use the device, then asked me if I was a mechanic. When I said that I wasn’t, his reaction indicated he was validated in assuming I misread or misused it. He further made it clear that he did not accept financing, and that I must pay in full for the car. The car itself ran, but it seemed loud and rough. After a couple if minutes it quieted, obviously an automatic choke self-adjusting. Unable to drive it, I can say nothing else about the car.
