I had the opportunity to drive this vehicle from Johannesburg down to Cape Town, and back in December 2006. We had a fully loaded boot, with a trailer.
Pros:
Bieng a diesel it can easily travel 900km on a tank.
Cons:
Service intervals at each 15000Km is a bit annoying.

I had an 02 Golf 2 Dr TDI, this car i miss because of the versatility of the wagon. The Jetta has better acceleration and about the same economy.
Pros:
Fuel mileage is great, Great looking car, great for 2 people on long trips, with luggage
Cons:
Expensive services, 0 leg room for rear passengers honda civic has more leg room in the back than this car.
