2009 Toyota Avalon XLS

The 2009 Toyota Avalon XLS comes equipped with a number of standard features not found on the entry-level Avalon XL trim, including leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wood-grain-style interior trim, a power glass moonroof, and a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat. Other standard interior features include dual-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, an information display, a tilt/telescopic multifunction steering wheel, and power windows and door locks. A nine-speaker AM/FM audio system with an in-dash 6-CD changer and MP3 input jack also comes standard. Options include a navigation system, a DVD player, satellite radio, and adaptive cruise control. Outside, standard features include halogen headlights, front foglights, power exterior mirrors, and dual exhaust pipes.

Toyota adds traction control and stability control as standard equipment for 2009, which improves the XLS's traction and balance in slippery or uneven road conditions. The automaker also adds brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution to the XLS's four-wheel antilock brakes, which help drivers maintain control of the vehicle during emergency braking. Active front headrests, which help reduce whiplash in some types of rear-end collisions, are also added to the standard equipment list for 2009. A 3.5-liter, double-overhead-cam V6 engine, producing 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, powers the '09 Avalon XLS. The engine links to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift, and pushes the XLS from 0 to 60 in around 6.5 seconds. Fuel economy for the V6 averages 19/28 mpg, according to EPA estimates. The Avalon XLS rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
