With a wheelbase lengthened from 111 to 126 inches, the 2008 GMC Canyon SLE-1 Extended Cab can offer a second row of small jump seats, accessed through smaller reverse-hinged rear doors. Though not necessarily family-friendly, it does offer more versatility. Engine choices in this rear-wheel drive pickup range from a standard 2.9-liter, 185-hp DOHC I4 to a 3.7-liter 242-hp I5, paired with a 5-speed manual (I4 only) or 4-speed automatic. Both 15 or 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires are available.

In Extended Cab form, the SLE-1 doesn't have the power features of the Crew Cab, but does come with cruise control, a CD/MP3 player with radio data, OnStar, a trip computer, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
