Though the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche LT2 4WD comes with high- and low-range gearing and 9 inches of ground clearance, it is best taken off-road when combined with the optional off-road package, skid plates, and larger 20-inch wheels (replacing the standard 17-inch all-season tires). The on-demand system features mechanical and center locking differentials, with a rear locking differential available.
The sure-footed ride is powered by a 320-hp, 5.3-liter V8 and 4-speed automatic transmission that provides 340 ft-lbs of torque. Four-wheel disc and ABS brakes, stability control with rollover sensors, dual front and side impact airbags, automatic headlights, halogen lamps, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and tire monitor are standard. The 2008 Avalanche LT2 4WD also adds standard foglights. A rearview camera, first aid kit, and rain-sensing wipers are optional.
The truck can be configured to seat six in two rows, with each row getting cupholders, a power outlet, and audio controls. In this setting, the bed holds 45 cubic feet and is just over 5 feet long. Tie-downs, a cover, and lockbox are included. A trailer hitch is standard (capacity up to 8,000 pounds), and a roof rack is available. Remove the midgate wall and window, and you now have room for three passengers, but you get an 8-foot bed. Convenience features upgrade to a 6-CD changer with MP3 input, leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals, remote start, a garage opener, and wood trim. These are in addition to cruise control, intermittent wipers, full power features, remote entry, 6-way power front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a security system. Options add a navigation system, DVD player, Bose sound system, and a sunroof.
