Powered by a 168-hp, 2.4-liter DOHC inline four with variable valve timing and a CVT automatic, the front-wheel drive 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander ES can haul up to seven passengers and tow up to 2,000 pounds. A 3.0-liter, 220-hp V6 is optional. Riding on 16-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, the compact SUV comes standard with two rows of seats. The second row folds flat and reclines, expanding the 39-cubic-foot trunk to 73 cubic feet. Tie-downs are included, and a cargo cover is available. A third-row jumpseat that seats two can be added. The second row features a fold-down armrest. The front passenger seat also folds flat, which comes in handy for carrying skis.

Standard safety features include 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual front and side airbags, traction and stability control, a tire monitor, skid plates, 8.5 inches of ground clearance, and daytime running lights.
