All-wheel drive with low-range gearing that can be engaged on both dry and wet roads sets the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS3 4WD apart from its rear-wheel sibling. A Torsen limited slip center and rear differential also accompanies the full-time, selectable system in this performance SUV. The performance comes from a 390-hp, 6.0-liter V8 and 4-speed HydraMatic, and is helped by a self-leveling sports suspension, stronger brakes and shocks, bigger front and rear stabilizer bars, and 20-inch wheels with all-season tires. 17-inch wheels can be substituted. Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel ABS brakes, StabiliTrac, a tire monitor, rollover protection, dual front-side and side curtain airbags, foglights, automatic headlights, and mirrors with turn signals. The 2008 Trailblazer SS3 4WD gets around 14/19 mpg at best.
Besides its 0-60 in six seconds performance, the SUV is a good family car, seating five comfortably, with fold-down rear seats that expand the cargo area from 41 to 80 cubic feet. Tie-downs are included, and a cover and net are optional. A standard roof rack and trailer hitch add more storage capacity. Five power outlets, plenty of storage compartments, and backseat audio and climate control are other family-oriented features. The SS3 upgrades from the SS1 with leather seats, 8-way power front seats, and memory settings. It also comes with a CD player, wheel-mounted audio and trip computer controls, cruise control, intermittent front and rear wipers, keyless entry, a garage remote, security system, and new XM satellite radio. Options add a DVD player, navigation system, and sunroof.
