In 2006 Toyota totally reinvented their popular crossover SUV, building from a new platform and offering a more potent engine.  The bizarre toy-like appearance was abandoned along with the small Corolla platform, in favor of a larger and more mature-looking body.  The new RAV4 features a longer wheelbase and an additional two feet in length.  
The base trim is available with both engines and drive trains, interchangeable for four total combinations.  This model houses the 2.4 liter four cylinder engine, which supplies the 3600 pound SUV with 166 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque.  Fuel economy for this RAV4 variation is estimated at 23/27 mpg.  The electronically controlled full-time 4WD drive system sends most of the power to the front wheels, but automatically redistributes power to the rear when a loss of traction is detected.  The system also features a locking mode with continuous 50/50 power distribution, ideal for slick conditions.
Even the entry level RAV4 models are finished with an abundance of convenience features, including CD audio system that will recognize Mp3 CDs, power windows and door locks, cruise control, air conditioning, and privacy glass.  Every RAV gets Toyota's Star Safety System: with Vehicle Stability Control + Traction Control, and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist. Options on this model include daytime running lights, 17-inch wheels, and a compact third row of seats.
