Bentley Continental Flying Spur History

The Continental Flying Spur is a new breed of Bentley sedan.  Although it wears the well-traveled Continental badge, along with a myriad of other models in the last 55 years, it is quite unique from any of its grand touring Bentley predecessors.
The Flying Spur is built upon the Volkswagen D platform, which also provides the foundation for the other two current Continental models (GT and GTC), as well as the Audi A8 and the VW Phaeton.  It is far closer in price to those VW/Audi models than it is to its Bentley kin, the Arnage sedan.
The Continental Flying Spur is powered by a 6.0 liter W-12 with twin turbochargers.  The VW-developed engine provides 552 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.  The W-12 engine is a Bentley first, along with all wheel drive.  The 0-60 time is 4.7 seconds, and the top speed is 198 mph.
The Flying Spur does not reach the same level of ultra-luxury as the Arnage or the Azure, but the Spur can be had for about $80,000 less.  Consequently, the Mulliner customization options are not as comprehensive.  Lambswool rugs, rear seat DVD entertainment system and rear veneer picnic table are available add-ons.
