CarGurus' 2006 Volkswagen Touareg Review

While upgraded engines are on their way, they arrived too late for the 2006 model year, so the Volkswagen Touareg SUV was once again available with two engine options -- a 3.2-liter, 240-hp V6 and a 4.2-liter, 310-hp V8 engine, which is the same 4.2-liter used by Audi for its A8 and A6. Both engines are coupled with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission that gives drivers the ability to shift manually.

The long list of standard features in the Touareg includes a dual-zone climate control system, heated front seats, a multifunction trip computer, power sunroof, power windows, remote power door locks, cruise control, leather and wood trim throughout, front and side airbags, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power heated exterior mirrors, an audio security system, and an anti-theft alarm system. Other features include traction control, stability control, braking assist, and front fog lights.

Drivers were impressed with the Touareg's handling, smooth ride, safety features, and interior, though some would have liked to have had third row seating. On the downside, several drivers noted that the vehicle required "frequent trips to refuel."
