2006 Audi A3

Audi's entry into the crossover SUV world looks like a roomy hatchback, but with so much more style and power that Audi insists we call it a sportback.  Hatchback, sportback, sport wagon -- whatever you call it, the 2006 Audi A3 is a little luxury cruiser that offers an ehxilarating driving performance with the practicality of a spacious interior that seats four adults comfortably.  Audi is marketing it as a sports coupe hidden inside the body of a wagon, and judging by its speed and acceleration capabilities, they are right.
  
The 2006 A3 maintains Audi trademarks of light, precise steering, firm handling, sturdy frame, and luxurious interior.  It can be had with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, 200-hp engine or a 3.2-liter, 250-hp V6 AWD quattro.  So this definitely isn't an SUV or any hatchback like we know in the States.  This little Audi blasts off (0 to 60 in 7 seconds) and never looks back.  Thanks to the FSI, direct fuel injection engine, it also increases fuel economy, so while you're zipping around having a great time, at 24/32 mpg, your wallet will thank you too.  The 2.0 engine comes with either a 6-speed manual transmission or DSG automatic, which gives you manual-like shifting without a clutch.  The Direct Shift Gearbox anticipates the next gear to provide much smoother, seamless shifting.  The quattro only comes with the DSG.

The 2006 Audi A3 comes standard with 17-inch wheels, keyless entry, power windows and locks, and dual climate control.  Special packages add fog lights, roof spoiler, sports suspension and leather seats.  A twin sunroof option is also available, to give the car a convertible feel.  Though made mostly of plastic, the dashboard is ergonomically laid out and easy to read.  Inside, though not as roomy as the A4, there is plenty of leg and headroom for the average person.  The trunk space is small, but triples in size with the rear seats down.  Outside, a gently sloping roof, huge grille, and low front and rear are what give this hatchback its sports coupe personality.  

In short, the 2006 A3 offers monster sports performance with all the comfort, luxury and utility of a wagon, all for an affordable price.  Owners love this car for its handling and style.  They wish the 2.0 came with AWD and more horsepower.  The biggest complaints were a noisy ride.
