The 2012 Toyota Prius Three displays an updated exterior design and comes equipped with a number of new standard features, including a new 6.1-inch display audio system and an upgraded Smart Key entry system with push-button start and illuminated entry. The new audio system gives owners voice and touchscreen access to a 6-speaker AM/FM audio system with a CD player, USB port, Bluetooth and audio streaming, as well as navigation, HD radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, text-to-speech capability, a backup camera and Toyota's new Entune system, all of which come standard. The Entune system, which is similar to Ford's SYNC system, integrates with the driver's smart phone via an app and enables drivers to search for restaurants and stores, shop for movie tickets and check sports scores, traffic and weather. Other standard features for the Prius Three include automatic climate control, a multifunction tilt/telescopic steering wheel, a 60/40-split rear seat and power windows and door locks. Cloth upholstery with manually adjustable front seats also comes standard.
New exterior features for the Prius Three include a redesigned front fascia, bumper, headlights and LED taillights. Other standard exterior features include heated power mirrors and 15-inch alloy wheels. Power comes from Toyota's fuel-efficient Hybrid Synergy Drive, which consists of a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor. Working together, the gas engine and electric motor produce 134 hp and 153 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant links to an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and posts fuel economy numbers of 51/48 mpg. Among the standard safety features are 7 airbags and Toyota's Star Safety System, which includes enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control and antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. Hill Start Assist, another standard feature, aids the driver when starting from a full stop on a hill. The Prius Three rides on 15-inch alloy wheels.
