Overview of 2012 Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback By Eric Tallberg
Blessed with 26 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seats folded, the 5-door, 5-passenger 2012 Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback provides a bit more versatility and utility than its sedan siblings. Furthermore, this subcompact hatchback is delivered with 16-inch steel wheels and power-adjustable outside mirrors, as well as premium power door locks and windows, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, a simulated alloy steering wheel and simulated alloy dash, door and shift knob accents. Entertainment in the SE Hatchback comes via a 40-watt, MP3-capable single-CD player with 4 speakers. This nifty little hauler is also delivered with an integrated rear spoiler. Available for the SE Hatchback are such goodies as a SYNC-interfaced 80-watt audio system with 6 speakers and/or a Sport Appearance Package with 15-inch painted aluminum wheels and cruise control. There’s also the optional Winter package with heated front seats and outside mirrors, as well as other packages that include satellite radio, ambient lighting and LED-supplemented parking lights.
As with its sedan brethren, the 2012 Fiesta SE Hatchback sports the variable-valve-timed 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder powerplant (I4). Combined with either the standard 5-speed manual transmission or the dual-clutch 6-speed auto-manual transmission, the four-banger puts out 120 hp and 112 lb-ft of torque. Mileage estimates run 29 mpg city/37 highway for the stick shift and 30/40 with the 6-speed auto-manual gearbox. Finally, be aware that the 2012 Fiesta SE Hatchback is available only with front-wheel drive.
Standard mechanical safety features for the 2012 Fiesta SE Hatchback include 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), as well as traction and stability control. Additional safety equipment delivered with this nifty hatchback includes front and rear head airbags, front side-mounted airbags, a driver’s knee airbag and a post-collision safety system. Finally, Ford’s touted 911 Assist system will automatically alert emergency responders when airbags are deployed or the fuel pump is shut off. All of this has the identical 2011 SE Hatchback gaining the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick honor.
This overview covers the SE Hatchback trim only.
