2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS AWD Trim Overview

Again for 2012, Chevrolet offers its popular, practical and peppy base Traverse with snow-busting full-time all-wheel drive, thus its LS AWD designation. Look for 116 cubic feet of total cargo space in this 8-passenger midsize crossover, not to mention a rear spoiler, a roof rack and 17-inch steel wheels. Premium cloth upholstery and simulated alloy accents spiff up a roomy, if somewhat bland, cabin and a useful complement of features, including remote power door locks, power windows and mirrors, and cruise control help ease the commute or the journey to the building-supply center. Front and rear air conditioning, telescoping tilt-wheel steering and reclining second-row seats also come standard in Chevy’s premier crossover, as does OnStar Directions & Connections service. Entertainment, meantime, is provided by a standard MP3-compatible single-CD player, 6 speakers and satellite radio.

Though sparse, there are a few options available to the 2012 Traverse LS AWD, including trailer towing equipment that allows up to 5,200 pounds of towing capacity. Bluetooth technology, upgraded wheels and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are also available to this base AWD trim.

Powering Chevy’s hefty crossover is the ubiquitous variable-valve-timed (VVT) 3.6-liter V6 engine that mates with a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission to put out 281 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The variable-valve-timed V6 is estimated at 16 mpg city/23 highway, and a mechanical limited-slip center differential manages the full-time AWD traction. Finally, the 6-speed automatic boasts a transmission hill holder.

Of course, 4-wheel antilock braking is standard aboard the 2012 Traverse LS AWD, as are traction and stability control, front side-mounted airbags, three-row head airbags, a post-collision safety system and OnStar emergency services, as well as daytime running lights and a remote antitheft alarm.
