A used 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Base Convertible has an average retail price of $7,166 and 85,600 miles.
It is not surprise that Chrysler has unveiled new PT Cruiser variations for 2005. The lineup has grown from two to eleven styles in the last five years, and three new models have been added this year. The most exciting piece of news is the addition of a two-door convertible, which is available throughout the three main trim levels.
The Base Convertible costs about $3000 more than the wagon, but several additional features have also been added. Air conditioning, power locks, power mirrors, power windows, a power roof, and tilt are all standard.
Like the Base wagon, the convertible is powered by the unaltered 2.4 liter DOHC inline, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This engine supplies 150 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, sending the 3000 pound convertible from 0 to 60 mph in about ten seconds.
While buyers were initially attracted to this novel look for the PT, just as they were to the original in 2001, many soon found that ownership was a bit less thrilling than expected. Common issues are poor gas mileage, lackluster performance, the absence of standard safety features, a user-unfriendly trunk, and nagging mechanical problems.
This overview covers the Base Convertible trim only.
