CarGurus Overview

Chrysler's merger with Daimler Benz took the American automaker in several new directions.  This union was touted as a "merger of equals," but Chrysler has certainly appeared to move in a very positive direction since the late 1990s.

Retro-styling was one of these new directions.  While the PT Cruiser was built with many Dodge Neon components, its styling set it apart from other new 2001 models.  Chrysler designers based the styling on the Airflow wagon of the 1930s.

This Base model was minimally equipped, coming standard with a cassette audio system, power windows and mirrors, and air conditioning.

The PT Cruiser housed a 2.4 liter, 16-valve DOHC four cylinder engine, which could be paired with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.  The PT was supplied with 150 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and traveled from o to 60 mph in just over ten seconds.  Mixed driving gas mileage can be expected in the low twenties.

While the PT Cruiser's unique styling initially created a huge demand, Chrysler's long-time build quality issues eventually plagued the popular compact wagon.  Common complaints include excessive road and wind noise, and low grade interior materials.

This overview covers the Base trim only.
