Why it stands out
The Toyota Corolla is a standout choice for buyers seeking reliability and practicality, solidified by its status as the world's best-selling car since 1966. With a reputation for low running costs and exceptional fuel efficiency—especially in hybrid models—the Corolla caters to budget-conscious drivers while offering advanced safety features in newer models. Additionally, its diverse range of body styles, from sedans to hatchbacks, ensures that there's a Corolla variant to suit various lifestyle needs.
Other model years to consider
The Toyota Corolla model years 2021, 2014, and 2020 present viable options for buyers due to their affordability, solid quality ratings, and favorable inventory levels. The 2021 model, with an average price of $17,191.79 and a user rating of 4.3/5, offers a modern design at a reasonable cost while still having a strong percentage of good deals available. The 2014 model stands out for its affordability at $10,805.52 and a commendable user rating of 4.5/5, making it an attractive choice for budget-conscious shoppers seeking reliability without sacrificing quality. Finally, the 2020 Corolla is also reasonably priced at $16,193.18 and maintains a high user rating of 4.6/5, ensuring that buyers can find ample inventory options in this year as well.
Model years to approach with caution
The Toyota Corolla model years of 2005, 2007, and 2008 warrant cautious consideration due to several factors. Despite decent user ratings, these models have lower expert evaluations, indicating potential concerns with reliability or features that may not meet expectations. Additionally, a significant percentage of transactions for these years are classified as not good/great deals, suggesting that buyers might face higher-than-expected costs relative to the value received.
These recommendations are based on CarGurus' proprietary market data from December 17, 2025, CarGurus experts' opinions, and generative AI.

What people say
I like the car because it is practical and work horse type car. Reliability and can be repaired mostly by myself.
Excellent reliability. Drives smooth. Only minor downsides are it only has usbc ports, center console is small, driver window controls are positioned weirdly and lastly the sound proofing is a little weak. The car is definitely a solid move and the pros out weighs the cons.
Car is in perfect condition. Low miles was a must. Car is all original which is amazing.
Ive owned many cars over the years, including Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, BMW, VW Passat to name a few. I also travel weekly for work and rent various models. Toyota Corolla is the finest car I have ever owned. Durable, reliable, simple, quick (enough), easy to work on, good on gas, maneuverable, and engineered to minimize customer frustrations. Selling our Corolla was a mistake. Were definitely getting another one.
Great commuter car with great sound and headlights! I’m excited to own my first Toyota!
