A luxury crossover like the 2019 Audi Q5 delivers an incredible blend of style, comfort, utility, and performance. The second generation of the Q5 arrived for 2018, so it carries over for 2019. Competitors include the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Lexus NX.
The Q5 stands out by leaning into Audi’s refined, modern styling. The front end features Audi’s massive grille, flanked by sharp headlights. The Q5 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, making 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque and sending power through a 7-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy for the 2019 Audi Q5, which comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), is 22 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 24 combined. The Q5 also comes with Audi Drive Select, which lets the driver select from Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Off-road, and Individual drive modes.
Trims for the Q5 include Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Standard features on the Premium include 18-inch wheels, a power liftgate, LED taillights and running lights, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and leather upholstery. Behind the rear seats, the Q5 has 25.1 cubic feet of cargo space and with the 40/20/40 split-fold rear seats down, cargo space expands to 53.1 cubic feet. The Convenience Package is available for Premium, adding 8-way power front seats with driver’s seat memory; keyless entry; push-button start; auto-dimming, power-folding side mirrors; and a 90-day subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.
Moving up to Premium Plus adds 19-inch wheels, full LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, dark brown walnut wood inlays, and Audi's MMI infotainment system with navigation. Options for the Premium Plus include a cold-weather package with heated rear seats and steering wheel or the black-optic package, which offers titanium black exterior trim.
The range-topping Prestige trim adds 20-inch wheels, power-adjustable and power-folding side mirrors with memory, and a power-adjustable steering column. Inside, the Prestige gets ambient cabin lighting, 3-zone climate control, a head-up display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.
When it comes to safety, the Q5 comes with a reversing camera and tire-pressure-monitoring system. It also comes with Audi's Pre Sense Basic, which helps prepare a vehicle for impact, and Audi Pre Sense City, which can detect impending obstacles at speeds up to 52 mph. If a collision is imminent, the system will alert the driver and can automatically brake.
Other available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic-sign recognition. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Q5 a top Good rating for all categories except its headlights.
The Q5 combines technology with performance along with a host of upscale amenities.
