2010 Honda Ridgeline RTL Review
by Jim

The best compact pickup on the market.

When I was looking for a new pickup truck, I was coming out of a Lexus sedan with a beater Ford F-150 as the weekend utility truck. My son was getting into Scouting and the old F-150 was becoming too unreliable for out of town trips. I looked at Toyota first. Great looking trucks, but the ride was too stiff and bouncy. The Ridgeline is totally diff...

2011 Honda Ridgeline RTS Used Cars in Marlin, TX 76661

Great Deal

Price: $13,888

Mileage: 96,589

Location: Marlin, TX 76661

Certified Pre-Owned: No Transmission: Automatic Color: Gray Description: Used 2011 Honda Ridgeline RTS for sale - $13,888, 96,589 miles
Avg. Dealer Rating: (3 reviews) "I contacted Glover Ford and spoke with Gary. He was friendly and we talked about that car specifically. I noticed on line that they didn't offer the Carfax for that car, he said it's because of the Carfax lawsuits and that they have had cars that Carfax said were in a wreck but actually weren't, but he knew the owner - they were a small town dealership and knew everybody. Their price was $11,888. So my wife and I drove 2 hrs from Austin on Tuesday, met Gary, and talked more about the car. We told him we needed a reliable car for our son who's going to college next year. He said that car was only owned by a single mom who brought it in for a trade-in. We test drove the car and had some concerns: loud ticking in the engine and really loud road noise. The engine was dirty (they don't clean the engine so as not to look like they are hiding something), but the inside was fairly clean. The tires were horrible - they would not have passed inspection - you could actually scrape the rubber off of the front tires. He said it was sitting for a month so the tires probably had flat spots. The mechanic said the ticking was the fuel injectors and the car just really needed to be driven. The front seat lever was very hard to engage to fold the seat forward - but it was a used car. I again asked for a Carfax but he again skirted my request with the Carfax suits. I tried to negotiate the price - the tires were clearly bad, and I wanted an independent mechanic to look at the car. He said they did a 102 point inspection and had to talk to his boss, Lorne. He came back with a final offer of $11500 - they were a small dealership and couldn't afford to lose money on the deal. I told him I needed a separate inspection before i paid that much for a used car and Lorne came out and told us he was confident in his mechanics that we could bring the car to Austin (where we live) and get the inspection, he would meet us on Thanksgiving morning (he would be in town anyway) and we could sign the papers then. My independent mechanic came that day and pointed out a bunch of issues, some of which were: leaky valve cover and power steering pump, saggy splash guard due to missing bolt, seat lever, loose radiator, and the road noise was probably the lousy tires. But he said they were fixable, not a major concern. My son and i took it to our local Honda dealership on Wednesday to get an estimate on the repairs. $500 for the leaks in the engine, but the road noise may have been bad bearings and we would be able tell better with new tires. I then went to see if Honda offered an extended warranty. The manager showed us the price and asked what the Carfax said. I told her Gary's story and she kindly ran us a Carfax. I turns out that there were THREE owners since 2011. The front seat had been replaced, and more than once it was checked for "noise." Also, no maintenance entries since 2013 - only registration updates. We immediately started searching for another car that day. Gary clearly lied to us and knew about the history of the car and didn't want to share that information. I told them we didn't want the car and why. At no time did Gary apologize or even act surprised about the things I told him was wrong with the car. They asked us to return it - which we declined to do since Lorne was coming to town anyway. They eventually sent someone on Friday to pick it up and drive it back to Glover Ford. I contacted Glover Ford and spoke with Gary. He was friendly and we talked about that car specifically. Everbody was friendly at the dealership - I'm just not sure I can take them at their word (especially now that the price is $1000 cheaper)."

It wasn't until I got there that I was told they didn't do long term financing and monthly payments would be $350! And they wouldn't budge on the price despite van being overpriced. It was a waste of my time to go all that way :("
