The Toyota Highlander Hybrid got bigger and sleeker for 2008. This environmentally friendly SUV comes in two trims: Base and Limited. Both trims sport a 3.3-liter, 270-hp V6 engine.

The Highlander Hybrid has 4 doors and seats either 5 or 7. Seven-seat Highlanders have a foldable third row that seats 2. Options include leather seats, a back-seat entertainment system featuring a 9-inch screen, and a navigation system. Switch to EV mode and you slowly roll up to 5 miles on battery power. You also get side-impact airbags in the front row of seats and side-curtain bags for all 3 rows.

Overall, reviewers like the improved interior and extensive airbag coverage. On the other hand, some might consider the Highlander a bit of a gimmick, because it can only go 5 miles on electric power alone. In any event, the 2008 Highlander Hybrid looks better than its predecessor and takes noticeable baby steps toward weaning itself off gasoline.

I have a 2010-was looking to upgrade a few years and less kms. I bought my 2010 with 225km, and put 40,000 trouble free kms on it. Its crazy how well they perform, sip fuel with well designed hybrid system. And its crazy how they hold their value- Could buy a 2012 cadillac SUV with more bells and whistles for almost half the price and similar kms...
