2005 Mercury Mountaineer Convenience AWD Review
by pedroperdomo

Nice vehicle for large family.

Strong vehicle and great on long drives. Comfortable and plenty of room for large family. I always liked the look, black exterior with leather interior, one of mercury's best vehicles by far. Does not get better than the mercury mountaineer.

Avg. Dealer Rating: (6 reviews) "Went to the dealership on Saturday we test drove the car we wanted for approved and found out our payment gave us the trade in for our truck and everything we were there about 5 hrs that day, when we left Saturday we were told we had bought the car but we had to come back Monday to pick it up because it hadn't went through inspection yet they had just taken the car in on trade earlier that week. I was also told to bring my car Monday as well because I was thinking about getting a new lease and trading in my current lease. So Monday my husband calls off work to pick up his car we get to the dealership we have both of our cars there because my lease has to be looked over for trade in. They told me the lease payment was going to be way out of our range. I really think they could have ran those numbers and got a ball park range Saturday instead of telling me they could most likely keep my same lease payment or even have it lowered a little since I had all the info about my car with us instead of having us both drive out basically for nothing. So after we found out about the lease we were just waiting for his car to be ready. After another 5 hrs of sitting there we were told they WON'T sell us the car because it needed more than $5000 put into it.... well the $5000 it needed put into it was basically just because the car didnt have mufflers and the tail lights were tinted ( which is all PA legal) my husband would have ended up doing the same exact thing to the car that had already been done. We were so mad that day we just left. When we got home my husband had me call to see if we took the car as-is got it inspected ourself and signed a paper saying the dealer wasnt liable for anything we could still get it... After all they ran our credit already and wasted 2 days one of which my husband called off for. They told us the guy who makes that decision had left and they would call back the following day. We were told there was nothing they could do for us. My husband was still upset we had a verbal agreement Saturday the car was ours and now because of stuff they are saying the car needs (which legally it doesn't) we have no car. My husband called and spoke with 2 other people the last one being the general manager who was rude to him said our payments were a different amount than we agreed on and saw the paper saying what our payments were going to be and was now telling him that the car needed way more stuff than what we found out Monday. Everything he told him needed done my husband said was good being he's been a mechanic most of his life and has worked on cars since he was little. When he test drove it he would have knew if those things were broken or needed replaced. I would never buy a car from them I dont understand how as a dealership you can list a car, let someone test drive that car, run credit and approve someone for that car, when you haven't even inspected the car properly yourself to find out if you can actually sell that car! It was a HUGE waste of time and a HUGE disapointment finding out we cant get the car that had EVERYTHING my husband had been looking for! That the general manager had no care of wasting our time and was even rude to us about it. Horrible experience!"

Avg. Dealer Rating: (16 reviews) "Was told that the reason the price was so high over retail was this van is in demand. So you want me to change a bad rating on a van that is way over priced. Looked up van on kbb average trade aroung11k retail excellent 18k when I asked why the van was so high priced with 111,000 miles I was told that particular van was in demand. Its in so much demand its been on their lot for over two months. I offered them 17,500. "
