1999 Toyota Corolla Review
by Michele

Corolla

It's a good car just some things suck about it lol The roofing is poorly made. The handles cracked so had to buy new ones.. But it is a good car. I love my little car. It takes me places. Toyota is a good brand of cars.

Avg. Dealer Rating: (36 reviews) "The price listed stated $8,994. However when I got to the dealership & asked to see the car, the offer price the salesman printed out a paper that read $13k..not even including taxes & fees. In addition to that, he mentioned there was issues that might not be worth the purchase. He wouldn't even tell me what was wrong with it. I would have been fine with them reducing the cost by the total cost of fixing the known problems with the vehicle. After that the salesman asked if I was open to looking at another vehicle. I told him that I was interested in paying no more than $10k for a used SUV. The salesman then showed me a Hyundai GT, which to me isn't even an SUV but anyway.. I drove it & liked it but the salesman told me that it'd be $216 a month & on top of that I'd have to pay $1,500 for my 1st payment (bc of only wanting to put $500 down). I said that I could make it work somehow bc for the yr, mileage + condition of the car that is a really good deal, but I needed the monthly payment to be $200 a month flat.. that was my maximum budget. He then tried to rebuttal me by saying "you're going to let 57 cents a day prevent you from having a car". From that moment I wanted to leave bc I had already been there 2 hrs & didn't have time to be peer pressured into overpaying my budget by $192 a yr. The salesman said that he would go talk to a manager to try & get the monthly down to $200 flat. 30 minutes went by & my patience was running low. I looked over & saw him chatting with a non-employee. So at that point I was fed up. Got there at 12:30P (I know this b/c I told an Alma I'd be there by this time & I was) and when I checked my phone it said 2:35P. I then grabbed my purse & headed for the door & on the way out told the salesman that I've spent way to much time here & had to be somewhere by 3P. He said that he was just wrapping things up. I was like "no, I have to go you can call me or email me when you figure it out" & I walked out. This clean cut very nice guy walks out as I'm almost to my car & asked me if I even liked the car. I told him "to be honest I'm in love with the pricing but not the car" then he told me that I'd probably be better off financing a brand new vehicle (you know just a $20,000-$40,000 car). I was like is this guy serious? I came for a beautiful, low priced, used vehicle then get told that the vehicle is $4k more & not working. Then I can't even get the salesman to take $16 a month off of the payment.. let alone take less than 2 hrs to close me on a deal. Like I get it, $500 down $200 a month w/ bad credit is a lot to work with but like at least give me a reasonable deal on the car I originally came to see. "

Avg. Dealer Rating: (8 reviews) "I highly recommend Automax Tampa Bay. I particularly want to recognize my sales rep, Lawrence, and Will who assisted him. These guys were great. I have bought many cars over the past 35 years, and this was by far the BEST car buying experience I have ever had, period! They did not play any back and forth sales brinkmanship games. Everything they said, they did. From the time I spotted the car I wanted on Cargurus.com and was contacted by Lawrence until the time I drove the car home, the entire experience was very pleasant. Everyone we encountered were all very friendly and professional. I was also impressed that eventhough I bought the car "as is" they still provided a 30-day/1,000 mile dealer warranty. I drove 1 hr and 40 mins to get this car because they had the best price I could find Florida. Based on this experience, I would gladly do business with Automax Tampa Bay, Lawrence, and Will again when I am in the market for my next pre-owned cars. I give them my highest possible endorsement!"

Avg. Dealer Rating: (16 reviews) "I saw a used vehicle for sale on Car Guru and contacted Gettel. I was told the car was on the lot, said I was driving there thinking I would pay the advertised price of $15,000 plus plus. It took the salesman and I 20 minutes of walking to find the car on the back lot...filthy, marked SOLD AS IS on rear window. I asked the salesman to confirm asking price, he didn't know, wanted me and my dog to come in and sit down. I asked him to get the price, he literally asked why he should waste his time. I explained that he was the dealer, I was the customer, that I write the check, that he should not insult the customer. He returned with a price of $23,000 but I could buy it for $20,000. It got worse. Then it got worse. Then worse. My question, being 68 years old and in sales all mY adult life is, who trains these INSULTING, SHORT SIGHTED, RUDE salesman and sales managers? I saw their ad, drove there and was abused for it...I should have known better...actually I did know better as this wasn't the first bad day I've had at Gettel Toyota of Bradenton. Bottom line, NEVER GETTEL."
