Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my gf has a 2005 Saturn vue 3.5l  v6 awd.  She
complained of it using way too much oil. She
bought it used.  Has had it for 6 months with no
major problems until now. But noticed the oil
leaking isn't coming out of the car like I had first
thought. Just yesterday it started rolling white
smoke out the exhaust and the engine light came
on. Took it to our local car repair service and
hooked it up to the computer and read 11 different
readings. The main ones being all cylinders from 2
through 6 were misfiring except cylinder one. Also
o2 sensor but those are most commonly on all
vehicles without causing major problems. So the
mechanic told us more than likely the piston rings
were fried and that's why there's oil getting into the
engine and causing the smoke. He also said that
he thought the engine was about to blow. Or I
thought could also be blown head gasket causing
the same issue. We are on a very limited income
and dont have the money to get it fixed. So please I
ask if anyone has any knowledge or ideas THAT
WOULDN'T KILL ON MONEY!  I'm open to anything
bc the car is not paid off yet and if it's something
we can't afford to fix then we gotta let it go bk and
have to spend more money on leasing a new car or
another buy here pay here lot. Both are last resort
options we are hoping to avoid.  I've used this site
before for my pontiac grand am and the tips were
very useful. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Based on your description, I agree with the mechanic, the engine is shot, be it new piston rings or a head gasket. IMO, not worth fixing due to labor costs. I'd find a used engine to match the old and have that installed or dump it. Don't purchase a vehicle from a 'buy here pay here lot' , the quality of vehicles for sale as those lots is highly suspect. Purchase a vehicle with a clean carfax, from a reputable dealer, and at least a 30 day drivetrain warranty.
