1995 Ford Explorer the transmission will not shift into second unless you let off the gas I took it to a transmission guy he put on a code reader he told methat's the second gear is gone can I change
You can have it rebuilt, but may be cheaper to just replace with used one.
Tranny size for 4.0 4x4 is a4r55e.
Try replacing the vacuum modulator first. It's cheap. On older transmissions the shift points are determined by a vacuum signal. When you let off the gas intake manifold vacuum increases. If the vacuum modulator is weak it may need the added pull of the increased vacuum to shift the transmission. Also, inspect the vacuum line going from the intake manifold to the vacuum modulator. Be sure it's not kinked, worn, collapsing, or damaged. HTH. -Jim
