Why are dealerships selling these way above the 22-25k MSRP?

Asked by Nomenap Jan 23, 2022 at 10:04 PM about the 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat SuperCrew FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

They were once 22-25k each, now dealers are selling them new and used at 30k and up! Don't get ripped off by the dealerships!

I thought Ford made the message clear to their dealerships regarding price-gouging customers.  I'd really like to buy one of these but I am not paying $40,000 dollars for something that should cost about 25k, and I sure am not going to pay 35-40k for a USED TRUCK!  Yes, they are selling USED trucks for prices way above MSRP - a total RIP OFF!

There is no reason why lower trim models of this truck should sell for more then 25k.  CAR GURUS needs to fix the prices on these. 30k is NOT a reasonable price for one of these.

One of the things that made this truck popular was it's 22-25k initial price tag, but unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to snag one.  Now the dealerships just want to rip everyone off.

I just saw an article in the news today that Ford is not accepting orders anymore on the Maverick. they hit a home run. It said they have over 100K orders already. So yes, the dealers can ask anything they like, people have to stop buying into the hype. But until then find something else if you need a vehicle now.

Vehicles are like anything else. When supply is low and demand is high, the price goes up. With all the shortages going on right now manufacturers are not able to build new vehicles in the volume that the car buying public is used to. If I had to guess I would say that this hasn't happened since the end of World War II when the auto industry was switching back to civilian production from war production and the demand for new vehicles was high. I've been telling everyone, if you absolutely don't need a new vehicle right now, hang on to the one you have for another year or two. This too shall pass! Jim

Welcome to America, don't buy, and the prices will drop, we are letting dealers screw us over, cheaper to order a new one, but I hear waiting time is 6-8 months, build more, build in lower 48 states Mr. Ford!!!!!!!
